And I could just .
I guess it started this week but I just got the news and then heard it for myself on this morning's commute.
I have to express my outrage somewhere.
Sorry to put you in my line of fire, but come on! This isn't Texas or Alabama. This is the freaking San Francisco Bay Area! Dammitalltohell!!!!!!

(13,905 posts)I listen to 960 in my van, on my way to jobs. I turned it off real quick when that jerk-off came on the air.
If I'm still home in the morning, I've been streaming Stephanie Miller from Seattle. This is a big loss for the Bay Area, though they still play other progressive hosts, and even have Stef on...but not live anymore.

(92,454 posts)helped create the corporate takeover of our airwaves

After passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, as signed by President Bill Clinton, media goliaths like Clear Channel were allowed to buy up multiple, often competing stations in the same market and allowed leases by the FCC for multiple frequencies on our publicly-owned airwaves in each city.

Green960, redubbed KNEW 960, to become 'home of misfit, or at least mismatched, toys', says one insider...
You might call it splitting the baby. Sort of.
Progressive radio will be allowed to remain on our public AM airwaves in San Francisco, though with major schedule shake-ups, the removal of its popular progressive branding and several bizarre additions to the line-up, including far Rightwing extremists such as former Fox "News" phenom Glenn Beck in the place of what had been one of Green960's most popular morning shows.
The latest move in the strange back-and-forth saga follows on radio giant Clear Channel's announcement just over two weeks ago, that Green960 --- the only AM Progressive Talk Radio station on the dial in San Francisco, one of the nation's most progressive cities --- would be banished from the popular public airwaves and sent to the radio-ghetto of the little-known and even lesser-received HD2 band. Its progressive programming --- featuring the likes of popular lefty-ish talkers such as Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Norman Goldman and Mike Malloy --- would be replaced (with the exception of Rhodes, who is syndicated by Clear Channel's Premiere Radio) by yet another so-called "conservative" talk station, featuring extremists such as Beck and other Fox "News" regulars.

Clear Channel needs to be broken up as do the other media monopolies.

(56 posts)I heard this was about to happen in mid December. Unbelievable that they think that this format will work. I used to listen to Steph as I drove my kids to school in the morning - what a great show. On Tuesday it sounded like they let the frat boys behind the mic.
What's worse is listening to Norm Goldman in the afternoon claiming that the format is good because it is not just RW or progressive but somehow "balanced". I realize Norm has to do his master's bidding, but come on - Glen Beck is balanced?? The guy is a total nut job.
I understand that Beck is "owned" by Clear Channel, so putting his show on doesn't cost them.
Oh, and the replaced Thom Hartmann (smartest host out there) with some financial advice show. Winner (not).
In other Bay Area radio news, Limbo has been moved away from KSFO and been replaced with JD Hayworth?? Apparently one of the other Bay Area talk radio stations "lured" him away from KSFO, so unfortunately you can still hear him.
