Off-duty Secret Service agent shoots and kills dog on a leash in Brooklyn (Trigger warning)

There is a pic on the website of the dog, leash still attached, lying under a cover. DO NOT click link if this will bother you (like it did me )

An off-duty Secret Service agent fatally shot a dog being walked on a leash through a Brooklyn neighborhood Monday night, police sources and witnesses said.

The agent, whose name has not been released, was turning the corner from E. 8th St. onto Caton Place in Windsor Terrace about 9:45 p.m. when he came across a man and his girlfriend walking with a female Belgian Shepard.

The dog started barking, and the startled agent pulled out his gun and shot her, police sources said.

“She scared a cop who was walking home,” the visibly shaken dog’s owner said as he covered his eyes. “He shot her and she’s dead.”

Even if the dog was in full attack mode, which I seriously doubt, it was on a leash.

This guy should lose his job for this.

Read through the message thread. Initial official communication claimed dog was unleashed—which tells me that there was an awareness that shooting a leashed dog would be pretty unacceptable. Then when the photo of the dog’s cadaver clearly shows the dog is still wearing said leash the story had to be changed.

I’m seeing strong evidence of another trigger happy, shoot first, ask questions later LEO. Albeit a federal one.

I think this story is yet another highlight of the problems inherent with having any group of people having a license to kill.

Dog owners lose control of their pets all the time, especially if they're big dogs. There just isn't enough information here to make a judgement. I suspect that it will come down to the agent's word against the dog owner's and the agent will be given the benefit of the doubt. If there are other witnesses or cameras out there, circumstances might be different.

Would you shoot a dog, even one unleashed?

I've no sympathy for the killer - he was cowardly and wrong.

And yes, I've been bitten, in the face by a German Shepherd who put a tooth in my forehead and her lower jaw closed and hooked my upper lip, going up under my nose. I quickly forgave the dog after learning her background story; she had been abused and did not trust me petting her big pup. The relatively shallow bite was a warning because she could've done real damage.

I'd hate to see what this hair-triggered guy would do when faced with a suddenly loud human. He should not be carrying a weapon.

On edit: I looked up the Brooklyn address. My son lives about 1 mile from there and walks his dog over to the Park close by. He'd be livid if his dog were shot and would certainly press charges and sue.

When I fell on our walk, dislocating and breaking my shoulder. She’s a shepherd and I managed to get my phone out of my pocket and call my husband and daughter to come get her before calling the ambulance.

I hope they sue the pants off that guy. It could have bee a person coming around the corner that “surprised” him.

Pulls out his gun and starts blasting away. Why can't this clearly unqualified guy be put in charge of tRump's detail?

Belgian Shepherds excel at police work. She wasn't lunging at this man, she was warning her mom and dad. Any dog could do that.

Can't click on link....don't want to see the pic.

He is just mental enough to try to pack the ss with goons he can send on special assignment, and whose only qualification is blind loyalty and racism.

That would explain the panic shot. Surprised he actually hit his target, unless he was aiming at one of the owners,
