When he appeared on the news and admitted he would rig the trial, commit a cover up, that changed everything. His statement is already being used by the Democrats for the trial. They are already calling it a cover up.
If the Republicans play games during the trial the Democrats will call it a cover up and they have the statement, video of Moscow Mitch to back it up. If they acquit Trump, cover up will become a big issue in the upcoming election. His statement, video will be turned into devastating political ads.
The Senate trial will be about a cover up and the American people will be watching.

(33,423 posts)McConnell doesn't make blunders. He LOOKS like he's making a blunder. He's a cold blooded, calculating reptile of the order Testudines.
He's made a bet that the American Voters have the memories of gnats. If he throws this trial down the memory hole ASAP, 10 months from now low-information "Independent" flibberdigibbets will be more upset about Soshlyzm.

Its going to be a well orchestrated propaganda shitstorm.

(42,779 posts)His statement didn't change anything. There has never been any chance the Senate will convict Trump, just as there never was any chance the Senate would convict Clinton.
Even if he could be disqualified from voting, it wouldn't make a difference. There are more than enough Republicans who have not made public declarations like McConnell did to prevent the Senate from convicting.

Then the gop votes will be used against them in their elections.

(56 posts)People forget that there is a 3rd entity involved in this impeachment: The American People- Public Opinion as of this moment in history still has pull.
McConnell saying those words on Fox News can highly influence public opinion and making the difference- whether it brings 20 Republican Senators to voting to Remove or makes the difference by energizing our base and independents.
