I imagine there are million of this MAGAts who are falling for the bs.
Pastor Franz Gerber is worried that so many members of his congregation appear to idolise Donald Trump more than they worship Jesus.
The preacher at the Praise Chapel Community church was among those who voted for Trump in rural Forest county, Wisconsin, which swung heavily from Barack Obama to the Republican in 2016 and so helped deliver a state that put the president in the White House.
Gerber now has some regrets about his vote but what really disturbs him is an unquestioning and even aggressive adulation for Trump within his flock.
It seems like there are many evangelical Christians that are willing to die on the hill of supporting the Republican president, supporting Donald J Trump. And to me, that hill is not worth dying on. No matter who the candidate is, no matter who the individual is, he said. To put all your hope into that individual is a dangerous road. Scripture would warn us against that.

This article mades me so sad that mf45s presidency has destroyed families, long time friends and divided communities. It goes to show one that an evil person can mesmerize enough people to destroy democracy in our country. I dont think there is anything that can break his spell over these people.

(21,215 posts)It really fits, IMO. Trump's Evangelical supporters are uniquely primed for being lead this way. They are typically poor, uneducated, rural, forgotten, frustrated, desperate people. They wander in the wilderness wondering why God has forsaken them. Then along comes a preacher mixing politics and religion with the answer to all their problems, and presto! They follow that against their best interests, against everything they already know about Jesus and the Bible.
Which is exactly what happened to the people of the Exodus. They suffered and could not see God or leaders improving their life, they turn to anything that alleviates their pain. After a while it takes on a life of its own and gets out of hand.
I'm sure there are Evangelical leaders who are appalled at Trump, but I've not met many. Most that I have met are all in for Trump, blind to what he really is. Or, in some cases, fully aware (the Joel Ostein types), and are in on the scam, and parse the Bible to the masses in such a way to get them to go along with what is obviously against Jesus' teachings.
It this reason 10 years ago, Jimmy Carter left the SBC. https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/losing-my-religion-for-equality-20090714-dk0v.html

(8,759 posts)Both are false idols leading the people away from grace.
I get your argument, and looking at Revelations, its hard not to see Trump as the anti-Christ, he seems to be doing exactly what's said there.
But then, we've seen many humans over the 2,000 years fit this anti-christ description. Its hardly new, I think.
So yeah, I'll buy the anti-Christ thing also.

(82,849 posts)I realize that in these kinds of churches, the pastor serves at the pleasure of the congregation. But you get an hour every week, Pastor Gerber, to talk to your congregation. You're supposed to be a leader, aren't you? If you see your flock is straying, the Christian Testament has some very definite instructions for you. It could cost you your job, I'll admit. But nobody said pastoring was easy.

About 2:55 on the timeline.
"Let me tell you," he continued. "If Jesus Christ gets down off the cross and told me Trump is with Russia, I would tell him, hold on a second, I need to check with the president if it is true. That is how confident I feel in the president."
