white House Considers Changes to Law Banning Overseas Bribes

Trump’s administration is weighing whether to seek changes to a 1977 law that makes it illegal for U.S. companies to bribe foreign officials.

“We are looking at it,” White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow said at the White House on Friday, in response to a reporter’s question about the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

“I would just say: We are aware of it, we are looking at it, and we’ve heard complaints from some of our companies,” Kudlow said. “I don’t want to say anything definitive policy-wise, but we are looking at it.”

“It’s just so unfair that American companies aren’t allowed to pay bribes to get business overseas,” Trump said, according to a passage published by the Post. “We’re going to change that.”

Or, he's trying to BE bribed, not for paying others.

I would be in favor of eliminating the FCPA, if only to get rid of the annual on-line stupid courseware that all employees of my company had to be sheep-dipped through. As if we had the money or position to bribe anyone, much less foreigners.

And, Ukraine excepted, Trump is usually known for just the opposite, hush payments after-the-fact rather than bribes to get something he wants/expects.

Both are subsumed under Abuse of Power, which is the 1st count.

Any suggestion is utter crapola and head-spinning junk. He’s probably just teasing some crooked donor into turning out his pockets.
