Michelle Obama did a good thing, and he cant take that away from her. Thats not as easy as taking fresh fruit and vegetables away from the nations schoolchildren.

(51,624 posts)a few years ago I made my students make healthy food choices and we discussed nutrition often. I would go with them at lunch to make sure they took some healthy stuff. To be honest, the fruit was awful. None of it, no matter what variety, was not rock hard. You could pound nails with it. They never had fat free dressing or low fat cheese, which pissed me off. Even the "healthy" snack bars they got for free each day were all sugar. The teachers were discussing this at one meeting since they were gaining weight eating along with the students at snack time. And this was the new, improved, healthier school food. I can imagine what kids will eat now.

(31,261 posts)Earlier tonight I bought some apples, oranges and cheese slices, enough to last maybe a week. That cost $30 dollars. Imagine a person that is on a limited income, that person can't pay $30 for something that may last 4-5 days. We need to not only make healthy food less expensive and higher quality (we can start the quality route by not refrigerating the hell out of it - that stops the ripening process and makes it hard or mushy), but we also need to focus more on what kids like most -something that healthy food advocates ignore in their rush to have kids eat what they think is right for them.
The Trump changes will likely have the effect to making kids heavier and less fit, increasing the problems that are endemic in society already.

We moved to Houston when I was eight years old, and the first day I was all, wheres the salad bar? The gal whod go on to be a good friend looked at me like I had three heads. Lol.
Anyways, I really appreciated Michelle Obamas initiative, as Ive come to value more nutrient dense foods. Kiddos really need such. Is a shame tRump took that away, because hes that mean/dumb.

As for the sugar, it's both amazing and alarming how many ways sugar is added to so many foods!
