Facial Recognition - A Test of Google's Image Search
Everyone seems to be messing with facial recognition, so I thought I'd try something on Google Image Search. Would it recognize me?
So, I chose the upload option and uploaded a professional portrait of me taken a few years ago. It's a huge image and a perfect likeness. My picture in other forms is on the Internet in many places and has been for years. Would Google find any of those and link them to my upload? What do you think?
The answer was no. The best Google could do was associate my portrait with the word "Gentleman." It showed many photos of men with full beards, mostly from old images from the 19th century.
There were absolutely no links to any other images of myself that I know exist on the Internet, including some based on that same photograph.
So, is Google doing facial recognition stuff? Not in its image search tool, apparently.
I'll see whether Facebook can associate that image with me, if I can figure out how to test it.
