I am so old that....

I can remember when GOP voters called themselves values voters.

However, if being selfish, and openly racist, and greedy are seen as good values to have, they might still be values voters.

I am so old that I can remember when GOP voters called themselves the moral majority.

That was before they voted for a serially adulterous open racist.

And before they voted for a person who has been sued 4,500 times for non-payment of bills.

And before they voted for a person who has declared bankruptcy 6 times to escape failed decisions.

And before they voted for a person who has bragged about assaulting underaged girls.

And before they voted for a person who has declared he is against abortion, even as he paid for abortions for his mistresses.

Yes, I am that old.

That is liberal propaganda, promoted by the liberal fake news, and taught by liberal teachers.

They weren't claiming values and morals BEFORE voting for racists, pedophiles, adulterers and cheats. They were claiming values and morality while AT THE SAME TIME voting for racists, pedophiles, adulterers and cheats.

Gerald Ford was probably the last generally decent Republican this country has seen and there is no way modern Republicans would give him the time of day.

I don't remember a time in my life when the Greedy Old Pig party was truly honorable.......of course there's the odd few who stand out - I thought Bob Dole was (is) a generally decent.

Not the reality of their behavior.

And I agree with both of you, The GOP has been the Party of racism, and racists, since 1968.

I love asking repukes to tell me why they support Trump, without mentioning Obama or Hillary - they just stumble all over themselves. That's because they can't actually SAY they love the racism and xenophobia that Trump embraces and that it helps them to justify their own racism and xenophobia.

13. Gerald Ford cut medical benifits for veterans

Gerald Ford was born Leslie Lynch King Jr. He was in on the bombing of Cambodia. He was president entirely by Nixon's decisions. In no way was he elected. He pardoned a crook. He was part of the Warren Commission that was investigating and suspicious of J. Edgar Hoover's report on Kennedy's assassination. While in the Warren Commission he established a back channel leaking information to J. Edgar Hoover. He increased military spending while cutting veterans benefits.
I am old enough to remember when medical benefits for veterans were something to be jealous of. He changed that. You have to go back to Eisenhower to find a Republican with even a shred of decency and he was bad enough to appoint Nixon as his VP.

I sort of liked Kemp, but he disappeared pretty quick the moment he found compassion.

That was before Reagan and Republicans succeeded in equating the word "liberal" with the worst excess of the 1960's.

Others, not knowing what to do, but respecting religion, let them.

Now the Christian Right has shown exactly what it is, a mass of immorality and hatred. There is no reason to defer to them any longer.

Dwight Eisenhower, Margaret Chase Smith, Jacob Javits

Could disagree with their political agenda, but had no doubt they were basically good people who wanted to do what was best for this country.

Republicans that were willing to gave LBJ the votes to pass the Civil Rights Act, in spite of the dixiecrats. Yes, I remember racist Dems in the south, the children of which are now ruby red Rethugs. I remember Republicans who could cut deals with Dems., or who would jointly support legislation where our interests coincided. Not because it was political expedient necessarily, but many times because it was the right thing to do. My grandfather wouldn't allow the afternoon, conservative paper, Stahlman's Nashville Banner, in his house. But still, no one questioned their loyalty to the country or general decency. We had crackpots on the Dem side in TN as well, like Ray Blanton. We may not have agreed with former Senator Howard Baker on many things, but he was a decent man one could work with. He could be trusted. Those days are long gone and with them Tennessee politics has gone straight to hell. The state capital and congressional delegations are now filled with a motley collection of hacks and jackasses the likes of which the volunteer state has never seen...the wicked witch of Williamson county, Marsha Blackburn and "here's some cash, go get an abortion" Scott DesJarlais among other loathsome creatures. And I am loath to even set foot in the state again, unless it's pressing, family business. Sad. Very sad.

20. At this point, the GOP only represents the interrest of the rich.

Yes, they talk about family values, and religion, and abortion of course, but these things are simply words to them. At this point, the GOP is the Party of cutting taxes on the very rich, and cutting services for everyone else.

Many blame the Tea Party types that were created, I would argue, by Americans for Prosperity, but the roots go back to the reaction of racists to the CRA of 1964, and the fact that the GOP became the Party for racists in 1968.
