Anyone else glad Governor Northam didn't resign?

I know I sure am. I'm not defending what he did in college, but that was a long time ago, and he was, I believe, sincere in his apology. He has obviously grown tremendously as a human being since then, and deserves all the credit in the world for standing up to the NRA and their legion of loathsome sycophants, apologists and toadies, not to mention all the white supremacist gun goons and paranoid prepper nutters currently aligned against him.

What's happening in Virginia needs to happen in every state if we want our nation to be a safer, more humane place. We need more politicians with the courage Governor Northam has. We need more Democrats (and brave ones at that) elected at all levels of government. If Virginia can turn blue and be at the forefront of this great struggle against primitive barbarism then so can every other red state that is currently under the oily boot of the ReThugs.

1. I thought he should have stepped down. He probl wouldn't have won his primary if it had been known.

This time, we saw it coming and from whom.

Notice that when it didn‘t work, the Republicans just shrugged, said, „oh, well,“ and it faded from the headlines like a drop of water in the desert.

9. The sensible gun-control regulations he's trying to enforce will undoubtedly save many Black lives.

As well as many other lives across all racial lines. That's about as noble an endeavor as I can think of.

14. For starters: Virginia still has dozens of racist and discriminatory laws on its books, report says

McLEAN, Va. – Virginia still has dozens of racist laws on its books that enforced segregation and racial inequality, a commission to study the state's legislation found in an interim report released Thursday.

Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, who created the commission in June, vowed to work with the Democrat-controlled legislature taking office in January to strike the laws as official status from Virginia's code, following the commission's recommendation...

Among the discriminatory laws the report cites: the state's "Massive Resistance" strategy to block federal mandates to integrate schools, a poll tax aimed at black voters, the prohibition of interracial marriage and segregation of transportation, health care and housing.

When looking at the effects of these many laws, the report states that it is "painfully clear that Virginia is a long way from true racial equity."

I had no idea Virginia still had such barbaric laws on the books. I'm glad Governor Northam is committed to striking them from the books forever. All the more reason to be appreciative of his leadership as governor.
