It sounds as though McConnell or his minions will move for acquittal of Trump at their first opportunity and they all turn around and march out of the Senate Chambers.
Would John Roberts, who is presiding over the Trial/Hearing allow this? Acquittals are moved AFTER evidence has been presented and are the result of a vote of jurors finding insufficient evidence to convict.

(25,111 posts)But to be honest, I think there are more than 4 Republicans that will buck this, therefore, McTurtle will do it himself, and the world and majority of the American people will know this was a sham and shithole will be forever tarnish along with the Republican party.
The American people will see this as the elite getting away with crimes while middle class and poor do not.

Sinclair Broadcasting for regional news propaganda
Rush Limbaugh and a horde of RW radio hosts for over the radio propaganda
Hundreds of local and regional newspapers for in print propaganda
Thousands of RW websites and online channels.
In the middle, you have MOST of the broadcast networks committed to "both sides" no matter how insane and corrupt one side is
and, on th eleft, you have MSNBC, Comedy Central and a handful of websites/channels online.
To top it off, Trump will generate a massive amount of new scandals, outrages and corruption on a daily and weekly basis and people will soon forget impeachment.

(5,138 posts)So, these polls you mention... why are these animals still in power if the numbers you quote are accurate? People love to jump on a bandwagon when there is a camera pointed at it. Let's see if those numbers bear out as the proceedings start. Let's see what happens to those numbers if the rethugs actually manage to pull off this coup... sorry, this 'acquittal'. And, most importantly, let's see if those numbers are willing to do what it takes to actually remove this corrupt administration.

(35,454 posts)You know why they are still in power and how that has no possibility of changing until the next election

(15,545 posts)As I learned on another thread this morning, they are not jurors, so we need to stop thinking of them as "jurors" in the normal way we think of them.

(46,146 posts)A peanut gallery was, in the days of vaudeville, a nickname for the cheapest and ostensibly rowdiest seats in the theater, the occupants of which were often known to heckle the performers.[1] The least expensive snack served at the theatre would often be peanuts, which the patrons would sometimes throw at the performers on stage to convey their disapproval. Phrases such as "no comments from the peanut gallery" or "quiet in the peanut gallery" are extensions of the name.[1]

(15,545 posts)I already knew that term from my father. He used to use it all the time when the seven of us children would say something. He'd say, "Oh, I see the peanut gallery is weighing in on this" or "I don't need any comments from the peanut gallery."
But then he was of the vaudeville era.
