(51,615 posts)I believe Moscow Mitch will do whatever he can to remain the biggest unAmerican traitor and do what he does best...destroy the country . I expect him to continue to be a big prick when he gets to use his power in the trial. He loves screwing the Dems. This is fun for him.

(7,914 posts)Just like Trump he holds the Senate GOP in his grubby hands. Tom Delay's wet dream has come true.
It will take a few inarguable truth bombs to dislodge GOP Senators who might otherwise wish to speak out or at least disagree with Don and Mitch about such obvious abuses of process and law.
While Watergate pales in comparison it took the reality of the Nixon tapes and their manipulation to break Nixon supporters in Congress loose from the party line.

(9,426 posts)Since this case was started on that "perfect phone call" will he request that the original recording be placed into evidence? WE really need to hear that, I should think in order to put everything into perspective.

(2,694 posts)But this is the man who said, with infinite smugness and ignorance, that America had advanced beyond racism, that voting rights for African Americans were no longer in jeopardy in the south or elsewhere. This is the man who signaled to racist state GOP's that they should consider themselves free to pass legislation suppressing the African American, Latino American, and other minority access to the vote. And they did, almost immediately after Roberts shameful decision.
So I think it probable that Roberts will shrug his shoulders as if powerless to do anything and McConnell will kill the trial as all of his oath breaking senators obey their party's rather than their nation's call.
(At some point, perhaps years later, after Roberts retires, he will give an oh-so-heartfelt "apology" for the above behavior, and, as Justice O'Connor did for handing the presidency to George W. Bush, suggest that, had he to do it over again, he would decide differently. By that time, alas, who knows what will be left of the America we were born into?)
