The time has come to see who believes in the Constitution of the United States of America

...I believe that a few republicans, will not dismiss the House report. A few will agree to have the trial, and that is the time that those few will be dismissing all chances of being reelected in strong republican districts. Instead of dismissing the trial immediately, those few, even if it is 2, will stand with the rest of the nation. Stand with the Constitution of the U.S.A. And that will be the major vote no matter what happens afterwards.

..If there is a trial, the truth will be shown to all, as it has been. Who are those two? It doesn't matter. But in the end, we will have a trial, and it will bring out the facts as they have been shown. Yes, it will be ugly, and it will get uglier, but there will be a trial in my opinion.

...This is the reason that senators are elected for 6 years. Their position is much stronger. Perhaps those who vote with the Constitution will survive the wrath of Trump and his puke friends.

Government Appointment
In 1777, Congress named Paine secretary to the Committee for Foreign Affairs. The following year, however, Paine accused a member of the Continental Congress of trying to profit personally from French aid given to the United States. In revealing the scandal, Paine quoted from secret documents that he had accessed through his position at Foreign Affairs. Also around this time, in his pamphlets, Paine alluded to secret negotiations with France that were not fit for public consumption. These missteps eventually led to Paine's expulsion from the committee in 1779.

We need a minimum of four Republican Senators to stand up and be counted. Any fewer than that, and he gets away with his instant dismissal. I am holding out hope that there are enough Senators who will do the right thing.

A few who expect to retire might start worrying about legacies and fire insurance... We've seen that some retiring anyway have briefly dusted off discarded principles on their way out. Not even all of those, though. Personal and special interests don't all end with elected seats.

So Romney and Lee should be safe.

Also there’s at least one who is retiring, does anyone know more about that?

In the Senate, Republicans are losing four veteran committee chairmen: Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Pat Roberts of Kansas, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, and Mike Enzi of Wyoming. While Alexander, Roberts, and Enzi represent solidly red states that will likely stay Republican in 2020, Isakson’s decision to resign at the end of 2019 for health reasons sets up a second Senate election in Georgia, where David Perdue is already up for reelection this year. The Democrat Stacey Abrams nearly won Georgia’s governorship in 2018, making the race for Isakson’s Senate seat potentially competitive this year—and one that could have big implications for control of the chamber
