It just seems that Senator Kerry gives a great speech, helps out Dems and the POTUS, and it's still not good enough for some. Wow.

While Kerry is a strong and able person, I think the mountain of lies heaped on him by big money may have hurt his confidence. He struck me as very intelligent and educated, but shy and modest.
Which led to him being accused of being arrogant and aloof, as often happens to people are considering many possibilities before they answer a question for which someonemight deliver a throw away answer. I feel that Obama gets the same treatment.
His praise for Obama I think was heartfelt and he knows very well what the Democratic Party stands for and believes in Obama. He has been working with him for many years. It's just some times that it is easier to praise another, harder to praise oneself.
Kerry has lived a very worthwhile and important life with conviction and bravery, and been abused by the lying media for decades. He was attacked by the right viciously when he came back from Vietnam and said some truths many people did not want to hear in the sixties and seventies. They were technical things, but true.
Kerry ran a good campaign for POTUS in an almost impossible contest with an imcumbent in the middle of a war that had the media calling anyone who opposed it a traitor. Kerry was attacked on frivolous grounds.
He was accused by CT shills as having 'let GWB win' because they attended the same college. He lost because of such severe election fraud by the GOP that the perps were sent to prison.
He has, like Ted Kennedy, done his duty to the nation. As far as any DUers insulting him, they may be disaffected primary losers, but the media was so horrific then, and it's worse now, that he wasn't going to get a fair shake anymore back then than Dean would.
The other DUers who always insult all Democrats, don't pay them any mind. They have been watching too much of American Idol and believe that insulting people like Simon Cowle is a sign of a superior intellect and makes them look clever. it doesn't, it makes them look shallow and pettty.
And we probably have a few trolls among us, I just saw a thread get hidden by someone who insulted Obama, just trying to work that post count up.
Use Ignore, I do.

(14,128 posts)Especially the confidence factor. IAT that there he feels free now as himself and it's easier to make the case for a Dem President too.
All the other points are excellent. Didn't know about the Anti-Obama thread (he can't catch a break either. , but thanks for the heads up.
Will definitely take your advice. Thanks for your patience.

(20,844 posts)Bush had to go to the box in the back to survive face to face with Kerry in rounds 2 and 3. WTF people voted Bush in 2004 is the greatest mystery of all time.
WinstonSmith4740
(3,056 posts)That's no mystery...we didn't. Anymore than we voted him in in 2000. Karl Rove just needed to get him close enough to steal it. Florida in 2000, Ohio in 2004. What I've never been able to figure out is how they got enough votes to get it close.

(6,278 posts)I just cannot figure out how it is close at all!
I'm not sure if the media is just trying to make this into a competition or if they are colluding with the Republicans to help steal the election.

(3,056 posts)I really think the media knows this thing is over. If you look at the many, many pictures that have been posted here of the crowds that are turning out for Obama, as opposed to the much, much smaller groups gathering for Romney, you know it's no contest. Contrast the panoramic shots of the Obama crowds (which we NEVER see in the MSM) to the tight shots of Romney supporters...the media has a HUGE stake in this. They make serious dollars on campaign ads...if the people are allowed to think this is over, that money will dry up and blow away. But, if they keep reporting the polls are tied, or very close the ad money will keep flowing...and they want their share.
On the bright side, the silver lining here is that by continuing to report this as so very, very close, it helps us get the votes out. I'm a proud Democrat, but we can be lazier than hell sometimes. Republicans go to the polls, regardless. Democrats will stay home if the weather's bad, or if everything hasn't been absolutely perfect and everything they wanted done got done (a la 2010, letting the perfect be the enemy of the good) or IF THEY THINK THEIR CANDIDATE HAS A LOCK ON THE ELECTION.
I've volunteered to work this election, and as a teacher, I'm encouraging my students to be active also. Actually, I'm "bribing" the hell out of them. They'll get extra credit for bringing me their voter registration card, for their "I voted" sticker after the election, for getting their parents out to vote, and for working the election. The commander of our JROTC unit at school blew my doors off the other day by coming into my classroom and talking to them about how important this election was, how their future was at stake, and really hit a LOT of democratic talking points. We're not supposed to get political in class, but he was obvious about how he supported Obama. He told them that the huge Clinton surplus, which could have gone to education, health care, etc. was squandered by "sending people like me to Afghanistan" and giving people who didn't need them huge tax breaks, so now they get to sit in classrooms with WAY too many other kids (our classes are averaging out to about 40 kids), their parents' houses are underwater, and (get this) a woman's right to choose her own health care options are being wiped out. He also confirmed to me the next day what has been posted here at DU...Obama has been the best thing for soldiers and veteran's since FDR. All four of our ROTC folks are for Obama, (2 African-Americans, 1 Hispanic, and 1 Caucasian), and he really gave me the impression that the military is behind Obama all the way.
So I think in a strange, almost 1984 way, the media is doing us a favor. If we don't get "souls to the polls" on election day, it'll end up being a 2000/2004 redux. The Rove Machine will get it close enough to steal, and nobody will be able to figure out how Romney won.

(3,528 posts)On NPR they keep saying how Obama is more likeable and has higher approval ratings, but people want someone who can "fix the economy"; i.e. Romney. Over and over again. I find myself yelling at the radio "How the f*** will returning to the failed policies and tax cuts that caused this mess 'fix the ecomony???'"
And this on NPR, the so-called "liberal left wing media". So imagine the shit they are spewing on Faux News?
NPR's coverage of the two conventions reveals a great deal; for the RNC all I heard were talking heads from within the Rebug ranks praising the speakers and the convention, for the DNC I heard a lot of snark and criticism; on the street interviews about concerns over jobs and the economy; never even a hint or suggestion that 8 years of tax cuts for millionaires and two disastrous and costly wars that Bush and co. LIED us into might have something, just a little SOMETHING to do with the situation we find ourselves in.
"The Daily Howler" and "Media Whores on line" were two sites I went to in 2000/2004 that really opened my eyes to how the media constructs a lazy narrative ("Al Gore is a serial liar, Kerry is wooden and stiff" and then just keeps hammering on it.
Americans are one of the most propagandised nations in history, no wonder thieves like Carl Rove can get enough votes to steal elections. I can't believe Romney is getting as much support as he is; let's just hope they don't steal another one.

Afterwards, she pulled me aside and ORDERED me to go and introduce myself to him. I'd met her several times before, so I think that might be why she spotted me. Anyway, he got a kick out of me still wearing that button.

(12,864 posts)I held John Kerry in high regard, until he voted for the IWR in October 2002 that gave GW Bush authority to invade Iraq. Given Kerry's rise to the national spotlight as a Vietnam vet protesting that war, he should have been our standard-bearer in making the case against sending our young people into Iraq. I was profoundly disappointed when he cast his vote in favor of the resolution.
Nevertheless, I took time off work and traveled to Cuyahoga Ohio to help get out the vote for John Kerry in November 2004. In my entire life I was never so despondent and utterly disgusted with my country when Bush took a 2nd term.
It is monumentally IMPERATIVE that we WIN this November.
politicasista
(14,128 posts)Kerry gave a great speech, but guess there are some that will never forgive him that that vote or the primaries. Gee.
Martin Eden
(12,864 posts)I like John Kerry. He's on our side. As a person, I forgive him.
But as a voting citizen who cares deeply about my country, I must use my best judgement to assess the politicians who want to be our leaders. One can forgive, but it is a mistake to forget.
In what was very likely the most critically important vote in John Kerry's career as a US Senator -- and his greatest opportunity to step up as a leader when it counted most -- he had very poor judgement and failed the people who really needed him. Do you disagree? Had he done differently, I think he would have had a much better chance to unseat the Worst. President. Ever.
OK, maybe I'm out of line by raining on his parade after he made such a strong speech in support of our president in an election it is absolutely imperative to win. Go ahead and "bash" me for speaking my mind. I can take it, and I bet John Kerry can take it too.
politicasista
(14,128 posts)Just think that it spoke volumes that Obama put him in the prime time slot. Some thought the same thing. Why have someone who voted for it speak for Obama on foreign policy, or that he "had his chance." He conceded Ohio, you name it. So many ignore that Senator Kerry is a critical ally to Obama and Biden when it comes to FP and Chairman of the SFRC.
Not going to bash you. You have a right to your opinion.
Obama didn't have to put Senator Kerry in that slot, especially since he (Kerry) was up against the MTV VMA's, it was primary day in MA and rightfully so the Obamas, Clinton, and Biden were top draw; but, he did, and it was arguably the best convention in years.
To each his own.

Too bad he was swift-boated by the rethugs in '04. The guy deserved better, and was a helluva lot better qualified to be president than dubya.
I hope he felt a measure a payback with this speech. I'm sure Rmoney felt some of it!
