Obama's speech is a break with recent Political Tradition

In a good way.

The center has moved so far right that we can now make a winning national idealogical argument.

Granted, at this point our idealogical argument really is, "If we gather together it might be harder for the wolves to eat us," or, "There may be more to human existence then living in bunkers shooting each other over tins of food." (Consider that we just made a line-in-the-sand stand for arithmetic!)

Still, it is striking to hear a true party-level difference in basic concepts of civilization.
