(905 posts)Yes, everyone knows the Orange Dotard is narcissistic.
But, some may not realize this is actually a clinical disorder: NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder).
There are different "types" of this disorder and as another poster accurately noted, the type tRump suffers from is Malignant NPD, which is, unfortunately, the most harmful form.
There is no known cure for NPD and the inevitable path of this disorder is dementia.
I would argue that tRump was already at early-stage dementia when he was "installed" to squat in the Oval Office. Every action he's taken since, including this babbling word salad, indicates he' is clearly further along in his march to full-stage dementia.
BTW, I would also suggest that many of those who are "closest" to this very sick man have their own disorder: It's called Machiavellian Personality Disorder. Look it up

(11,738 posts)I am thinking that he is also a likely candidate for Anti-Social Personality disorder. The two share some similarities, including an inflated sense of self importance, and lack of empathy for others. Trump's lying and his lack of sense of social propriety, as well as both petty and major criminality leans me toward APD. Of course he could have both. I bet if we look back at his past we would see some problems with the law and likely cruelty to animals, which would be indicators of APD. Had he been born more recently he would have likely had a diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder to boot.
He is not a mentally well person.
We often use him as an example with our children, when they are complaining about wanting the latest toy or gadget. We say, "Look at Donald Trump, he supposedly has money, he has power, but he is not a happy man. You never see him laugh or really smile. He is an example that having things and having money does not make you happy. He was rich growing up, but he did not have the love of his parents and family. He doesn't understand what love and acceptance is. The best gift we can give you is our love and our time because you are important to us. Giving you all the toys you want and not setting limits and spending time with you will just turn you into a Trump and we don't want that."
Very likely both NPD and APD, probably psychopathy, maybe more.

(11,738 posts)Psychopaths can typically regulate their emotions better, or at least hide them better. Think Ted Bundy or BTK who were typically able to blend in as "normal" people while committing heinous crimes.
Trump is an emotional mess. I would say he is a sociopath rather than psychopath.

According to British psychologist Kevin Dutton, the top four career choices for psychopaths are CEO, attorney, media personality and salesperson.

Trump matches 3 out of 4.
Of course there's some overlap between these conditions and they may mutate over time.

(1,604 posts)Anti-social personality disorder means that he gets a thrill out of breaking the rules. Not only does he feel that laws do not apply to him, but he gets an emotional high from deliberately breaking the law. He has no respect for any authority. APDs don't commit crimes for the money, but for the power and thrill of giving the finger to the authorities - they use the money that they gain from their capers to just commit ever more audacious crimes. They are also almost completely amoral: they see nothing wrong with inflicting pain over others and encourage that behavior in others. They also use blackmail whenever they can, and again find blackmailing a way of exerting both pain and power over others.

(11,738 posts)Your description sounds like an apt description of what Trump is like. Though he likes for people to perceive him as wealthy, he does appear to be driven by the thrill of power and breaking rules. He is sadistic and amoral. He seems to hurt people for the thrill.

(6,688 posts)He is just another overly entitled rich white guy. He is a parasite. He feeds off the hard work and misfortunes of others. A coward a bully and a liar.
He isn't anything special. He is lazy, arrogant, and dishonest. There is nothing wrong with that a few rounds with Mohammed Ali wouldn't fix.
He isn't ill. You can't fix him. The Grim Reaper will rid us of this one someday. Eventually the 99% will go all French Revolution on the whole lot of them.
