Knowing his supporters, I could probably make a decent case for criminal negligence in making the comment (based on how his supporters have reacted in the past). But that's still very different from Trump actually threatening violence.

Claiming that his bluster and political vindictiveness are threats of physical violence make us look as foolish as the Trumpers who insist that we're coming to take their guns based on advocating sensible gun controll, or that we like violence and mayhem - and we have no empathy for victime of crimes committed by them furriners because we don't think all muslims should be turned away a the border, etc.

If we can't have more sense than that, we don't deserve to run the country.
