Don't. People are mourning. You don't have to get it to be kind. nolabear Jan 2020 #7

Not having insurance (can pay the American Corp enough), or millions die in Iraq as we bomb them, but this is what gets attention. Sports. Used to sell stuff on TV.

This *IS* the time to say them, similarly to how it was appropriate to question the priorities of the Bush administration during Katrina, which Rice tried to deflect from by saying it wasn't time to play the blame game. "People are mouring" is too often used to deflect from real problems that hurt real people.

One thing in this country that you can count on is worshiping sports players. Not here, but there are people who will know all about this, but neither know nor care about all the people who die every day for whatever reason. Maybe an accident, maybe because they were too poor for anyone to care about. But a sports player, that's a different story!

To reiterate and rephrase, I will own my opinion that our priorities as a nation are completely screwed up.

I have this bad habit of questioning the wisdom of the crowd and not following along.

people who become larger than life achievers in the public eye have an effect on people's lives. Acting, Sports, Music, Writing, Artists, Dance....exemplify the best traits of humanity and allow us to dream, to create, and to escape. The death of one man, in a moment in time, is mourned by all who love them. Regardless of who they are. Probably even you. If someone should mourn you, I won't deride them because...you don't deserve their attention.
