And in sentimental yet substantive news . . . . . .

The Baltimore fireboat Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr, is saved from a scrapper. The boat, commissioned in the mid 1950s, was decommissioned and scrapped in 2015. Known as Old Tommy, it is named for the first two Baltimore mayors named Tommy D'Alesandro. The boat's namesake was Nancy Pelosi's father, the second Mayor Tommy was her brother.

The boat, sadly, was already partially cut up. What remains is the bow and wheelhouse. The plan is to move this to the Maryland Fire Museum, restore what's left, and open it to the public.

Here she is as she exists today. Less than half the boat remains intact. Originally she was over 100' long.

And here's Old Tommy in better days. Hopefully she will now live on again.
