Senate Republicans Will Push to End Impeachment Trial By February 3

Why? Because the next day, February 4, is the date set for Trump's SOTU speech to Congress. If the trial ends before that, Trump will march in as the Reigning Monarch and give a speech he thinks rips the Democrats to shreds.

That is the plan. And that is why the Senate will end the trial by next Monday.

Personally, I think that, if that happens, Democrats in both the House and Senate should unanimously boycott the SOTU and announce their intention to do so in advance.

Then, they should hold a Democratic congressional joint meeting the following day in the House Chambers (remember Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker and can do that) and make their case on national television. Make it the beginning of the Blue Wave campaign for 2020.

That's what I think will and should happen.

Would networks broadcast it though? I know cnn, msnbc and Fox News would but for abc, cbs and nbc two days of not primetime shows? Would they?

But that’s the Chicago triplet night. The ABC comedy night and CBS drama night. A ton of money spent by advertisers. I don’t think it’d be automatic. Will be interesting to see what happens.

"With the Blue Wave of 2020, We Will Take Back our Government from Tyrannical Rule!"

Could be the beginning of something unstoppable.

your idea now has merit. I for one do not trust what the likes of Collins,Romney and others are spewing. To much History to back that statement.

Sure looks like the plan was to do a show trial for ratings and then shut it down so the Orange Anus could do a rub it in your face next Tuesday.

end up reverting back to the party line. I no longer believe them at all. Trump is so obviously guilty that one more bit of evidence of that is not going to reverse the intentions of the Republicans in the Senate. Instead, they'll mostly just ignore it and push ahead as planned.

Some drama needs to occur when that happens. What I suggested is one possibility.

Since the channels of government have been corrupted by the sewage of a Republican cover-up, the best way for Democrats to make their case is through a media onslaught that leaves no stone unturned.

Democrats are very much awake, but we need to bang that drum to draw in indepedents and let them see that there is no doubt that Trump is a traitor, a criminal, and a threat to national security.

And they also need to understand that the same dirty tricks that PUT IN Trump in 2016 will likely be repeated in some form in 2020, so we all need to have our guard up.

People in Congress tend to avoid big controversies that require action on their part outside of the halls of Congress.

So, they probably won't boycott the SOTU en masse. Holding a rogue gathering is another thing that would be a sea change for them. It would be very difficult for some to be involved with.

All of which would make those things so powerfully effective if they actually happened.

I can dream...

the trial will end before the SOTU. If not, then it will extend further into February, which is not a desirable thing for the GOP.

So, they'll probably decide to just push ahead with their original plan. If so, it will be time for some decisive action by House Democrats, who are in total control of that legislative body.

I'd like there to be some drama if the Senate just punts this away. Let's have Nancy Pelosi run it back for a touchdown.
