DNC Thursday Night Obama Acceptance Speech Pics

Last edited Sat Nov 3, 2012, 02:55 PM - Edit history (1)

We grabbed our seats around 3:00, and had a few hours before the main event. EarlG decided to take his customary convention night "disco nap" so he would be properly rested for a long night of (political) partying.

And then he played a little Angry Birds.

And then he took a walk around the arena, and snapped a picture of Michael Steele's shiny head.

Meanwhile, the Time Warner Cable arena was filling up. Here's the view from our seat. We were right in the first row of the balcony, with a great view of the stage and the back/right side of all the speakers.

We also had a great view of the seats directly below us. (Remember that.)

The evening's events officially started with the color guard.

And then, when Beau Biden was speaking out on the stage, look who showed up in the seats below us! ... OK, I know it's a little hard to tell. That's Joe and Jill Biden. Joe is the guy in the middle waving, and Jill is right next to him.

And in the seat directly below is Valerie Jarrett -- blue dress, middle of the picture. And a soda cup, looking somewhat precarious.

Finally, Michelle Obama introduced President Obama.

Here's our three-quarters back-view of President Obama. The quality on these close-up shots is terrible because it's the low-res digital zoom on my iPhone.

And here is the entire Obama family after the speech.

And then the entire Biden family as well.

Cue the confetti.

And one last picture, before we leave the Time Warner Arena forever...

with at least a 300 mm lens. That range, you truly needed the 600, but a good DSLR, even if you have no clue, we can crop it for you.

I looked forward to your daily posts (& hoping that I'd see a DemocraticUnderground banner )...

... but EarlG saved the day & wore his DU t-shirt! Way to go, EarlG!

I can't give Skinner one of these for not wearing his DU t-shirt because you both did such an exceptional job at making us feel as though we were with you on the trip.

You both deserve one of these:

Great job & thank you!

Sorry we missed it live, but Sarah and I were having a delicious dinner at Bellini’s for our 26th anniversary.
I apologize to my loving wife that I frame our anniversary in this post… (Sarah understands).
We missed the live broadcasts of the DNC speeches last evening.
(and we missed the Foo Fighters! I love them!)
What a contrast between last week and this week… history versus fantasy…
Optimism and vision versus division and deception.
Leadership versus phony armchair quarterbacks hawking misinformation.
This week the DNC simply presented the idea of a functional government… (A government that is the functional tool which helps to create our legal codes, and assists its citizens in coming to consensus regarding social and moral codes … presumably the reason that the any government exists to begin with).
We have no culture or society or civilization without government… without government there is only an oligarchy or anarchy.
Science, arithmetic, history and facts … no phony mythology or theology necessary.

(Love you Honey!)

why didn't you take a decent camera? it's almost like you were going as citizens and not as the representatives of the best web forum on the planet?!

eta - from there you must have had a great view of gabby's pledge of allegiance. i'll just assume you were crying too hard to snap a picture, so you're totally forgiven for that one.

Find one at best buy, get a best buy credit card. Celebrate that you don't have to pay interest for 18 months, which by that time you would have payed it off. That's how I got my precious.
