Ahead of the House reconvening next week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) still is refusing to send articles of impeachment to the Senate. Instead, she is demanding that Republicans agree to allow new witnesses and new evidence during a Senate trial.
The sound you hear is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells (R-Ky.) laughter. Pelosi has no leverage. The speaker has essentially put a gun to her own head and threatened to shoot. Senate Republicans answer should be: Make my day.

Some have speculated that Democrats are delaying sending the articles to delay Trumps inevitable vindication. But Trumps vindication was inevitable before they even began the impeachment process. The later they send the articles of impeachment, the better for Trump and Senate Republicans. McConnell would be happy to hold the trial during the Iowa caucuses or the New Hampshire primary, or Super Tuesday or even during the Democratic National Convention, if they would like.
The closer the trial is to the November election, the more absurd impeachment becomes. . . .
In other words, the Democrats have come to the end of the road where they call the shots on this political impeachment process. Send the articles, Madame Speaker, or dont send the articles. Republicans could care less.

(27,815 posts)... Republican spokes-whore Scott Jennings said on CNN that the story would lead nowhere.
I actually heard another spokes-whore say the same thing two days ago about the Bolton bombshell - just another news story that will be forgotten within a day or two.

(40,212 posts)His opinion pieces are from outer space. How he is paid to write such drivel is beyond me. This is especially perplexing as his columns appear in The Washington Post.
I think it is important for a serious paper to offer different opinions, but couldnt they have hired someone with at least some degree of critical thinking skills?
I do think he offers entertainment. And the comment section following his pieces are hilarious. I must admit I have made a few contributions myself.

(4,305 posts)How much less could they care? And how much more will they care before this is all over? This grammatical construction shows a failure to think thoroughly about the logic of what you are trying to say. This careless thinking is largely responsible for many of our current national problems.

(1,521 posts)I subscribe to the WP and occasionally start reading one of Thiessen pieces before I realize that hes the author. Im always struck by the speciousness of his sneering right wing snark. The world always seems to overtake his aggressive idiocy and shows it to be nonsense.
This one is one of the best ever. He reminds me of Bloody Bill Kristol who was always wrong about everything until he became a Never Trumper.
