I remember DUers pitching in and buying roses for Helen Thomas

as she was the ONLY reporter challenging Bush Co. about the Iraq War and his bs weapons of mass destruction lies.

I think our speaker deserves the same for her courageous leadership, among other things.

I'd love to chip in if someone would take the lead on this (DC based so that they can oversee delivery to her office).

Just a thought.

So far, she has beaten it twice as well. Here's hoping you can relate a similar outcome to us when the time comes.

It's an ordeal hard to imagine if you've never been there. Neither of my parents made it, and neither did any of their siblings, so my genetic odds are piss-poor, too. Not "if," but "when."

Cancer just sucks, period.

How Two Local Florists Delivered 25,000 “Freedom” Roses to Nancy Pelosi

Potomac Floral Wholesale in Silver Spring and Blue Iris Flowers in Eastern Market teamed up to execute the massive order from Daily Kos.

Iirc, Cynthia McKinney challenged in the House but needed a Senator to cosponsor the challenge. Boxer did it. Several CHefs were in DC for the event and some of us watched the House challenge from Senator Boxer's office, surrounded by our roses. Our beloved Andy Stephenson was with me. We were lobbying to stop paperless electronic voting machines.

I am not suggesting this site, but $2 is in a lot of people's price range, and can you imagine an office filled with 1000s of state flags sent as thank yous?

Something like this (I have no affiliation with this site, it was the first one I found):

She and my dad were friends for many decades, and she was the first one to show up at his memorial service in Washington. She and I became close after he died, and we always had dinner in DC at Mama Ayesha's or at her apartment, which was close by. She was one of a kind.

About 12 years ago, I had made it a pet project to get Helen and Howard together, since their paths had never really crossed. It took me about two years to all be in the same city at the same time, but we finally had lunch in Washington, just the four of us. Howard embarrassed me by picking up the tab, and Helen gave Howard her highest compliment ("He's not like a politician at all!" ):

We had no one to take a pic of the four of us!
