Trio of Dem senators considering vote to acquit Trump

Trio of Dem senators considering vote to acquit Trump
A handful of moderate Democrats could deliver Trump a bipartisan impeachment vote.

A trio of moderate Senate Democrats is wrestling with whether to vote to convict Donald Trump in his impeachment trial — or give the president the bipartisan acquittal he’s eagerly seeking.

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Doug Jones of Alabama are undecided on whether to vote to remove the president from office and agonizing over where to land. It’s a decision that could have major ramifications for each senator’s legacy and political prospects — as well shape the broader political dynamic surrounding impeachment heading into the 2020 election.

good buddy Trump. I have no doubt that he's already told Moscow Mitch that he's going to go with the Republican party line.

Doug Jones is facing a difficult election. (FFS, even Roy Moore is going to run again.) So, Jones may be trying to placate his red-meat yahoos.

Why Sinema is wavering is a question I'll leave to the AZ voters on DU.

But this is unacceptable. Call these senators and bring them in-line. We CANNOT have ANY defections at this point.

Manchin thinks he'll have no future if he pisses off the right wing majority in WV, but he has a large group of disgruntled coal miners to whom Trump made promises he only broke. He may think he needs to do this, but he doesn't. If he is somehow doing it our of personal conviction, he's in the wrong party to begin with.

Jones is only a Senator because Roy Moore and Roy Moore. If Moore and Sessions split the Republican vote in Alabama, maybe Jones can pull a rabbit out of a hat and save his seat, but if so, he'll do it with the minority white vote and all of the AA vote while Sessions and Moore split the crazies--in which case he does NOT have to do Republican Lite. Indeed, going that route will just remind Alabama voters about voting for a fake Republican instead of a real one.

Sinema is an odd one. She has no need whatsoever to play the right wing game unless she was a "just-in-case" Republican plant all along. That would indicate some INCREDIBLY astute and cynical planning on McTurtle's part, and I'd HATE to hear that they are THAT farsighted. That would indicate Putin-style foresight, and Putin is much better at playing Dr. Evil than we are.
