Joe Manchin never ceases to disappoint. Being from a red state does not "justify" giving

aid and comfort to the GOP neo-fascist asshats! It does not "justify" the obsequious ass-kissing we just witnessed on TV, with Manchin saying "Sure", Hunter Biden would be a relevant witness.

His campaign slogan should be "I'm not really a Democrat, but I play one on TV. "

How bad is he? He thought Dershowitz made sense.

He's running for the nomination, but in the Senate he's an I.

Manchin actually is a Dem, and we need him (and Sanders, and King) if we want a majority.

more than most Democrats!! And, like YOU said, we NEED SANDERS to get a majority... for which Party was it?!?!...Oh yeaahh, Democrats, that's right!! Why, why why why why why why?!?! Wait for it!!! Because, for all intents and purposes, Bernie IS a DEMOCRAT, because he sides with DEMOCRATS, votes with DEMOCRATS, caucuses with DEMOCRATS, holds DEMOCRATIC leadership positions, and leads DEMOCRATS towards adopting a more progressive agenda, which, technically, makes him a DEMOCRAT!!!

He is in the Democratic Caucas in the Senate. He runs in the Vermont Dem primary because of an agreement he made wirth the Democratic Party.

I don't mean you when I say this -- I never understand how a lot of posters will use purity on Bernie Sanders but turn around and defend Manchin using pretzel logic. Manchin was the one that voted to confirm Kavanaugh not Bernie Sanders.

The party he does belong to has had a long strategy of working within the party unlike the Greens.

Sanders hasn't called himself a Democrat historically. Manchin, as much as we disdain his Manchinism, has.

I'm not applying any purity or pretzel logic. Manchin is a Dem and Sanders mostly isn't. Those are facts.

Big tent.

I was talking about others. There is the common "he's not a Democrat" even though he votes the party line while Joe Manchin is more of a question mark.

Donald Trump could register as a Democrat and be a Democrat. In fact he's been a Democrat before. I care about the issues. Most here were outraged at proposals from Republicans to put Biden or Hunter on the stand but now that it is coming from Joe Manchin I still oppose it. Like Kamala Harris said Hunter Biden is not relevant. It is Trump that is on trial.

We mostly agree. I just don't see a point to all the Manchin-bashing when they're all just blowing smoke at this point. barely any of them are saying what they actually plan to do and really want.

I wish we could get rid of him, he's totally awful 80% of the time or more. But he does count as a D and we need him to take the majority. Maybe one day when the world is a more sane place (yes, deliberately glass half full here) we can replace him with an actual Democrat?

If a better Democrat can get elected to the Senate there, that would be great. But I have contacts in WV and hear from them that the outlook is bleak.

If that seat were to go R, it might be a "mild" R at first - and Manchin would still have been better. But the next step from there is they will have senators that could be from Oklahoma.

Manchin is awful as a Democrat but the realistic alternatives are worse and much worse.

disloyalty on THE issue of this Congress? How many independents or fair weather Democrats will say, at least to themselves, "See---Democrats talk a good game about their principles, but when they're pushed they cave. Both parties are alike!"

I am not suggesting a "purity test". This is not about nuances in gun control legislation or differences in crafting a budget. But, just as it is true that "if what Trump did is not impeachable, nothing is", if a senator cannot vote to impeach the rancid POS in the face of overwhelming and UNCONTRADICTED evidence, why should I respect him as a "Democrat"?

unless we try. I remember Chis Hayes’ West Virginia town hall. It was heartbreaking. Believe me, the folks attending we’re not all Manchin fans. Far from it.

I hope some of the brave, new Progressives go to West Virginia and begin a conversation that offers an alternative to Status Quo. I believe a chunk of West Virginia folks care about the same things millions of others do. Things like the cost of health care, child care, insurance and housing. I’ll bet there are plenty who care about the environment and tax breaks for billionaires. Maybe they care about good jobs and how their kid is going to afford trade school or college.

New, fresh ideas. That’s what I’m hoping for, not more-of-the-same Joe Manchin.
