(14,918 posts)and never elected in the first place, but yes, she is up for election. She will face Democrat Mark Kelly, former astronaut and husband of Gabby Gifford. (Valerie Plame is running for the House, not the Senate, and faces a tough Democratic primary).

Maybe I'm just way older than most but I remember Goldwater running for President, the guy was an EXTREME right wing FREAK.

(12,265 posts)It includes Conway, Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt who ran McCain's campaign. It is wonderful seeing them go after their own.
BamaRefugee
(3,483 posts)If anything , the ad shows who Rick Wilson and other *newfound friends of Democrats* REALLY admire, someone like Barry Goldwater, the guy who wouldn't have minded a little taste of nuclear war if he got elected. And even stated that Generals could go ahead and launch nukes without asking for approval.
Don't even get me started on Civil Rights.

(12,265 posts)Lighten up a bit we can love seeing them eat their own can't we?

(6,448 posts)He led the charge of four Republicans (I don't recall the other three) who met with Nixon and said he should consider resigning.
After his son died from AIDS, he switched his position on LGBTQ rights. (Better late than never.)
We can give him the Barry Bonds asterisk (*) for being trashed by LBJ in '64, thus allowing the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act to be signed. God knows Goldwater wouldn't have signed them. And as bad as Vietnam was--imagine this madman in charge instead of Johnson.

(1,167 posts)In today's Republican party, Goldwater would be considered a moderate.
Although I admit that when I first heard that "true hero" line, I shook my head and said, "Wut?"

(58,785 posts)because RW ads use it, decade after decade. When you first hear the sneer, don't have to hear a single word more to know it's by conservatives for conservatives, against us or each other.
Not liberals. That nasty, sneering, insinuating "attack ad" voice isn't used on our side to influence us, and you know that's not because our candidates' campaigns are too nice, too principled and classy.
We are, I guess. Just enough to be repelled by that nastiness at least.
