Rep. Doug Collins announced Wednesday he is running for Senate in Georgia, setting up an intraparty battle with appointed Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler in the emerging battleground state.
Collins and Loeffler will be running to complete the term of former Sen. Johnny Isakson, who resigned at the end of last year because of health issues. The election is an all-party contest in November, with the top two finishers facing off in a January 2021 runoff if no candidate tops 50 percent of the vote.
An ally to President Donald Trump and top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, Collins is popular with the GOP base and framed his run around helping the president.
"I want to continue to [serve] the people of Georgia. We're getting ready for a good time down here to keep defending this president and keep working for the people of Georgia," Collins said in an interview on "Dumb Fux and Friends" Wednesday morning.

(22,133 posts)perhaps the good folks in Georgia will step up to the plate and say NO, we don't want a nut in our senate seat, and come up w/ a good, decent person to step into the seat, lets say a younger version of Jimmy Carter? Does he have any young nieces and/or nephews?
