each side go to Roberts, who then asks either the House floor managers or the defense lawyers to answer in 5 minutes. If the question goes to both, they each get 2.5 minutes to answer.

The floor managers are very strong today. The Trump excuse-makers are experiencing problems. The contrast could not be more apparent.

where each side comes up with questions who they designate who the question should be directed (House Managers or WH Counsels), hands them to the Chief Justice, who then reads them to the chamber. Then the side directed to answer selects someone to respond.

Each side takes turns going through this processs.

This is how an impeachment trial is done. You have "prosecutors" and "defense".

They do the same thing with hearings EXCEPT that the questioning members are up on the dais asking the questions themselves, and in some cases, they may even be questioning other House members or Senators during a hearing - either as a "colloquy" or as actual testimony.
