Nothing preventing the Senate from doing their own investigation on the Bidens either.

(4,982 posts)Grassley - This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and proctected. We should always work to respect whistleblowers requests for confidentiality.
Romney - (W)histleblowers should be entitled to confidentiality and privacy, because they play a vital function in our democracy.
Burr - We protect whistleblowers. We protect witnesses in our committee.
(Theres a fourth that is cut off by a chyron - I will find it and update.)

I'll be happy when McConnell is too old to control his bodily functions.

(129,087 posts)Correcting the nonsense about the full House is required to vote to send subpoenas. AND ironically, Mulvaney was subpoenaed AFTER the resolution was passed.
And then the House Committee rec'd a 2-page bullshit letter from Cippycup asserting that Mulvaney is completely immune and cited absolutely no law to justify.

(129,087 posts)impeachment. Seems both approve different standards depending on party.
Should it be "preponderance of evidence", "clear and convincing", or "without a reasonable doubt"?
The_Counsel
(1,660 posts)...stating that the President believes the impeachment inquiry to be illegitimate and wasn't going to participate? That meant no documents. That meant no witnesses. That meant no legal defense. Trump never invoked executive privilege because he never sent witnesses. At all. THAT would have been the time to invoke said privilege.
But no...Trump instead claimed "absolute immunity," a completely STUPID claim, because it doesn't exist. And btw, "executive privilege" and "absolute immunity" are NOT the same thing.

(129,087 posts)It often happens where the Pres. will claim privilege of a small subset of info and then produce as much as they can that has been requested.
But this has not happened - there was a blanket defiance.
