I learned something about IQ45 supporters from my white evangelical

Christian brother yesterday.

First, he has actually become so much nicer of a person in later years, (he is 65). He treated me terribly years ago when I started dating some women, (I'm bi but that was discovered years after that). He basically shunned me and if it weren't for our parents he would have never spoken to me. Yesterday he actually apologized for his behavior!

He visits my mom about 4 times/year now that she is in a home and this week he also helped me prepare and get to a colonoscopy; something I found amazing for him to do. He was very accomodating and tried hard to make things easy for me.

But at some point that orange man came up. He is so defensive of the orange man to the point that I think he is one of the ones that would continue to vote for him if he shot someone on 5th ave. NY.

He did not believe me when I told him #45 had to pay back 2 million and 26 million for fraud. He said that all the other news organizations except Fox were lying. He said the impeachment was a political process and when I asked him what the articles of impeachment were he did not know.

But, one thing got to him. I found the information about Trump's 2 million and 26 million frauds on Fox news from Google. I showed him both and he just kept silent.

So the point I would like to make is, if you are trying to talk to a Trump supporter find the information about all his fuckedupery on the written Fox news.

I know they don't report these things on most of Fox TV but at least they wrote about it in print.

Example: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-paid-millions-charities-end-trump-foundation-lawsuit

“Not only has the Trump Foundation shut down for its misconduct, but the president has been forced to pay $2 million for misusing charitable funds for his own political gain," (AG of NY) James said in a statement.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-university-related-lawsuits-settled-for-25-million

“In 2013, my office sued Donald Trump for swindling thousands of innocent Americans out of millions of dollars through a scheme known at Trump University,” Schneiderman said in a written statement. “Donald Trump fought us every step of the way, filing baseless charges and fruitless appeals and refusing to settle for even modest amounts of compensation for the victims of his phony university. Today, that all changes.”

Schneiderman said the $25 million to be paid by Trump or one of his business entities includes restitution for students and $1 million in penalties to the state.

I feel like a dope for not ever thinking of this, because Fox is so totally off my radar as a potential source of information. I honestly had forgotten that they aren't just Tucker Carlson and Jeanine Pirro or whatever her name is with the horrific nasal voice.

This is wonderful advice! Super helpful for people like me Thank you!

Each played to their readers - just like fox.

[There's no good excuse for fox of course, but things have been, and are, the way they are].

One Evangelical sister, who lives near me, is always repeating something she heard on Fox News. I will refute what she says, citing the NYT or Washington Post as a source of true facts. Then she gets made and tells me. "you think you know everything, I'm not talking about it anymore".

She is like most Fox viewers, they wear blinders and only believe what is on Fox. They live in a world where all brown people are out to kill you, rape you, steal from you and all black people belong in jail and you need to buy gold coins.

Almost worst of all is that Rupert Murdoch has made billions of $$$ spouting this trash news. The most sad and absolutely worst of all is that millions of people believe it.

10. About that $2 million Trump paid out just last month
Thu Jan 30, 2020, 04:44 PM
Jan 2020

He was ordered by the court to pay up for defrauding the donors of charitable contributions people made to support veterans in October 2019. The money was held up for two months while Trump's lawyers tried to get the judge's blessing to allow Trump to claim the payments as tax deductible charitable contributions. I don't know what the final adjudication on that was, but when the news broke in December 2019 that he'd made that payment, Trump naturally complained about the publicity and its timing, as if it was all somebody else's fault that he'd conned people and had to pay back some of the money.

It's so odd that none of this seems to affect Trump's credibility in any way in the media, which slavishly report Trump's every utterance as 100% trustworthy, at least to begin with. Once it's shown that he out-and-out lied, the media are on to the next thing.

or sometimes the WSJ (which has a RW editorial bent, but they often have important news articles) or even the National Review (William Buckley's old publication.)

They're more likely to listen if I use a source they generally trust.
