BumRushDaShow
(129,472 posts)and according to the pundits, it's the battle between the WH and McConnell Drumpf wants a victory lap at the Super Bowl (which is Sunday, with his big ad buy) and a spike-the-football with a celebration in the endzone moment, during the SOTU (which is next Tuesday) - plus the Iowa Caucuses are Monday, so it's a battle to finish up Wednesday or this weekend.

(557 posts)Since they voted for no witnesses and docs, is it the end of the trial? Or is there more to come?If they already let the killer off, what more is there to do?

(129,472 posts)There is also the issue of the State of the Union scheduled for Tuesday so it's all the discussion by the leaders on the schedule going forward.

(33,424 posts)They may be trying to figure out how to keep Putin and his minions from access to all of our resources, which would be used to further the war on democracy.
The Senate is just a couple of votes away from granting unlimited license to Trump. We know Trump loves dictators, especially Putin. We know Trump is easily manipulated by Putin. It wasn't hyperbole when the House managers warned of the use of the entire 4.7 trillion dollar budget for corrupt purposes.

(2,276 posts)Susan Collins is pathetic, her yes vote is a joke. She and Lisa probably drew straws to see which one could pretend to be a patriot and Susan won. Hope theyre both voted out of office (as well as many others).

(10,952 posts)if they are given say at least 15 minutes to talk: They need to get some staff people do do a bunch of 15 minute mini interviews with one bomb dropped in every segment including the receipts. Democrat Senators could use the mini interviews for their segment t. They just need to drop enough bombshells to make it very ugly for the Rethugs.

(4,986 posts)I am not a vengeful person, but I will never forget what they did today. I hope they are forced to remember and regret this day for the rest of their lives. They sold out their country, because they wouldnt stand up to the fox news pResident.
I know they are awful, but you hold out hope for a shred of decency...

(4,986 posts)Just gonna have to figure out what to do going forward. The republican senators are all complicit in the coverup, and they will own the horribleness that unfolds.

(33,424 posts)Are there enough people aware of the stakes to make a difference?
The Republicans are close to granting an unlimited license to Trump. Trump does Putin's bidding. Putin and Trump despise democracy. Trump has shown he is willing to use our resources to manipulate our elections.
With an unlimited license to cheat, what will he do?

I think we already knew the outcome months ago (and in fact, no President has yet to be removed by conviction in the Senate). But it was a matter of working in a media age with a self-promoting media mogul in the WH.

(129,472 posts)According to Blunt, apparently the Dems told them that they could put up enough roadblocks (amendments, etc), and then add that onto the final debate and remarks from each Senator as part of the current Rule - enough to go until "Wednesday at 4 pm". So with that threat, it sounds like they may have enough votes for a new schedule that will have the final vote on Wednesday, with no weekend session.
Mersky
(4,986 posts)Glad you captured it. The situation could use the oxygen of a weekend off.
BumRushDaShow
(129,472 posts)technically weren't involved in that schedule (I'm assuming saying they are conceding nothing) but knowing the Iowa Caucus is Monday and 3 Ds need to be there, it probably is as good as it gets not to have the gloat job in prime time.

(129,472 posts)and they decided to do it as what they regularly dub in the Senate - "Morning Business" - meaning not "sitting in an impeachment trial" but back to a state of regular Senate business. But in this case, Senators can come and go and each will have an opportunity to do their 15 minute speeches, and Roberts will not need to be there for those 2 days allotted for it. Also it will not be closed so it will be open to public viewing - but still considered "deliberations".
