(15,286 posts)Roberts' rationale for not being a deciding vote was based on the two votes CJ Chase made for adjournment and some other administrative issue, not on substantive issues.
Remember, the Supreme Court has cases involving executive privilege and seperation of powers that will be coming before it. He can't allow himself to be painted as partisan by one party or the other or possibly be in the position where he might have to recuse himself from participating. Remaining strictly neutral is the right call in this case.
