UPDATE: BIll Clinton IS more popular than football

Giants versus Cowboys versus Clinton — Clinton wins.

When the dust settled Thursday, the NFL’s season kickoff game between the Giants and the Cowboys had fumbled about 3 million viewers compared to last season’s season starter, including about an hour when it competed for viewers against Bill Clinton at the DNC.

More important for political wonks, from 10:30-11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, the NFL’s season kickoff game averaged 23.123 million viewers. Clinton’s address began around 10:30 and wrapped up at about 11:22 p.m.

In that same hour, the collection of commercial networks carrying the DNC, including ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel, averaged 22.769 million viewers. That puts Clinton just 354,000 viewers behind the Giants and Cowboys.

Digging deeper, Current TV’s DNC coverage in that hour averaged 197,000 viewers. And, contacted by the TV Column, PBS, whose numbers are not given to reporters by Nielsen, estimates it averaged around 4 million viewers, based on Nielsen fast-national statistics.

Which puts Clinton over the top.

not everyone in the country is a Giants or Cowboys fan. And plus, that was a very important speech.

like mine where my hubby watched the football game on the teevee and I watched the DNC online on C-Span.
I'm sure a lot of people watched it on the internet. It doesn't seem to take that into account...
