I think it will happen sometime before the 4th of July.
Simply because Trump will not change his scofflaw ways. More evidence will come out. More witnesses will come forth. And finally, the Courts will make a decision about the Don McGahn case. It will become too heavy for them to carry. They will march to the White House to ask for a resignation, just like they did with Richard Nixon.
They will not wish to go thru another impeachment trial.
They will have no choice.
Republicans want Trump to be a dictator. They're not going to stop him.

I don't think Moscow Mitch will do that, even though there may be a few Rs who are sick of his crap.
It would be nice, though!

(82,849 posts)Alea iacta est. They're in the same position that Slim Pickens' Major Kong was in at the conclusion of Dr. Strangelove. No choice but to ride that bomb right down to the ground. Might as well whoop and holler and wave your hat around.

(22,056 posts)Do you really believe the Republicans think Trump has done anything wrong?!
Pardon me, kentuck. I read your posts every day with interest and respect even though we're often of differing hues and perspectives.
In about an hour, when you see the vote tally after the so-called conviction vote, you'll know that the entirety of the Republican party stands behind Trump. Romney is an anomaly. Collins and Murkowski are almost anomalies. The Party will stand together.
Stupidly, a couple of Democrats might go along with an acquittal vote. Their re-elections prospects should be nonexistent.
Republicans have divorced themselves from any principles that the serious conservatives espoused. They are one of the following and I invite you to take your pick:
- Cult
- Religion
- Tribe
- Counter-Insurgency fueled from another nation
- Interior coup
- Idiocy
Don't count on any Republicans to buck up against McConnell. He told us from the beginning that he was going to cover for Trump.
Why would you expect anything else?

(16,130 posts)but I do expect him to start having his political enemies "disappeared". Bill Barr will be happy to arrange that.
