I wonder if I am on a list.

A list titled something like "Trump enemies". Of course I would be on the bottom for sure, but if there is a list like that I am probably on it. I stay off of social media now but have been vocal for quite a few years. Im sure if there is a list like that I am on there, or if one was made I would be on there. Probably we all would be. That has always been a probability but a small one. Now, Im not so sure its so small of a probability anymore and it fear the future will make it higher.

If Trump wins a second term - and maintains control of the Senate, then it would not surprise me if all of us that are members of DU, might one day find ourselves inside looking out. Having been identified as enemies of the State by our fearless leader Bone Spurs.

The blessing of course is that Susan Collins would be concerned.

at this point, being overly cautious plays into the hands of those who wish to harm us. their next step is getting us to feel isolated and alienated for our beliefs and associations, so we self-censor and withdraw from normal society.

There's no way resources would limit such a project, only privacy laws.

Which is to say ... we are most definitely all on a list somewhere. You can take that to the bank.

What format they made it available, and the programmers experience level with handling such data, but my point is ... it's not very high level stuff and one person could code it pretty quickly. It wouldn't take that much in the way of resources.

The NSA almost certainly has already done this, cause they don't need ISP help, they're tapped into the main trunks ... but they wouldn't admit to having done this, and probably wouldn't share their list of DU'ers with other agencies barring their algorithms picking up on some legit emergency. At least ... for now.

But ... if someone on here were to start making legit-sounding threats against government officials, I'd bet they'd have a visit from Agent Mike pretty damn fast.

And I think it'd fast ... because they already logged 'who we all are' IRL.

11. My BFF was applying for secondary citizenship in her husband's country.
Mon Feb 10, 2020, 01:06 AM

She had no intention of giving up her American citizenship, but she wanted to be able to vote in elections that affected the community where she lived.

She informed me that when an American requests citizenship in another country, the FBI creates a file on that person as standard operating procedure.

Well, my BFF really, really, despised George W. I should also mention that she has a Muslim husband, who is such a rabid, patriarchal zealot that he didn't care when she didn't take his last name.

My friend and I often speak long distance across the ocean. During the time when the Patriot Act was pushed through and being used to violate all sorts of Constitutional rights, we often wondered if our own conversations were being recorded.

She wasn't that worried about how her life might be impacted, because she lived abroad. But we wondered if I would come under special scrutiny because of our phone calls and if there was any possibility that they might search my home in my absence and in the absence of a proper search warrant.

In response to that concern, I said that I wouldn't mind if they searched my house as long as they cleaned the place in the process. We laughed ourselves silly as I announced to any government agencies that might be listening: "All the secret information is in the dust collecting in the carpet."

I would make the World's Worst Spy, as I am already the World's Worst Housekeeper.

I'm sure that quite a few of us got on a list, or two or three or four, during the *Bush misadministration.

I remember one particular petition was thousands of pages long. And it was delivered directly to the White House. I know my name was on that one.

I think the White House is somewhat like Santa. Checking the list to see who's been naughty and nice.
The problem is, they have it backwards. We are nice. I can't call them naughty. They are pure evil.

in the days of Nixon most of us young locals weren't important enough to rise to national attention but in small towns if you spoke out aggressively for civil rights and against Vietnam and the draft it was very common that the local big wigs took notice of who you were and among themselves and their businesses, offices for building permits etc. they could and often would see to it that you had a hard time. The local cops/county cops/state cops etc. all had programs with the FBI for keeping "track" of "troublemakers". Like in Milwaukee and Chicago police departments they had "Red Squads" that were intelligence units that also kept track of people and infiltrated social activist groups. They of course were not above some intimidation. The Chicago Red Squad was so notorious that it was ordered disbanded and the cops destroyed much of the files they had from spying on liberal groups. Some of the files remain at the Chicago Historical Society. What they do now is simply use third parties and their software to sift through social media and build up files on you as a resident of a city or as an activist etc. Here is a link to a Chicago Sun-Times newspaper article from just last year. Notice that the company the cops had been using was marketing itself by calling activists and unions as "overt threats". https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/3/8/18392496/chicago-police-use-secret-software-to-spy-on-us-next-mayor-must-clue-us-in
In Wisconsin during the recall election of Scott Walker the GOP took all of the recall petitions and placed all of the names in a database and then sent out to local GOP activists the lists for their area. Then they started doing stuff like harassing phone calls etc. I remember my Mom receiving one. The GOP of course claimed they were only "verifying" the signatures and making sure that people "understood" what they had signed. Sure thing. They also did stuff like check names against court records to try and get dirt etc. I sincerely apologize for writing lengthy entries sometimes without paragraph breaks. I was horrible in 7th grade English class and my teacher never deserved the stress I gave her.
