Well, I made it to retirement age today.

I turned 62 today and will begin getting my Social Security payments next month.
Not much, $770 a month, but my house and property are paid for, so land taxes, utilities, food and beer are all I need.
I understand that I will be able to earn up to $14,000 a year without affecting my benefits. And Jeannie has a stable job.
I'm still working. I have a couple of concrete jobs and a pretty good sized masonry job waiting for the rain to stop.
I never thought I would live this long.

Being nearly 54 myself, I'm still hoping I can make it to 55 before Republicans and/or their Democratic 'opponents' turn Medicare into a voucher program.

alittle richer now then when I was working. The good thing I don't have to dress up to go to work or wear makeup or even drive alot. I love being home and having my grandkids come over.

Congrats, me too, but only because I just got my disability. Forget the fact that I'll die early, I'm taking handouts cause I'm lazy.

Congrats on a life of hard work. I hope you enjoy your Golden Years.

You earned it and yes, you are entitled to it.

to get full benefits. I started collecting at 65 and was working full time. I was laid off my job in 2010 and that paycheck really helped. Now I am having to depend solely on social security, I collect $14000 a month and after medicare I only collect $13600. But fortunately, I have no other monthly costs other than than the normal utilities, home and car insurance. My car is free and clear. I live in a mobile home and only pay a lot rent of $377 that includes water and garbage pickup. But I really miss that paycheck.
