This is 100% true. You can take it to the bank. Dementia is dominating everything w/ Trump now. Whats sickening are his enablers thinking Hope Hicks can buy them more time. He needs to be removed & receive neurological evaluation & caregiver assistance that eases his decline.
Was just told by one of my contacts that the actual reason why Hope Hicks is being brought back to the WH is due to Trumps declining mental state.

I do think he has senile dementia. I nursed my dad for years through this, age 65 thru 84, and know exactly what this. looks like.
I think he is probably at the stage where he is having trouble recognizing printed word. I do no think he composes his own tweets either.
He rants and someone else translates, because he does not put sentences together anymore.

(10,030 posts)He was quiet, and did his 'jovial granddad' thing on que. He had Alzheimer's. They nursed him through the end of his term. Still, a lot of people figured out what was going on.
Trump's problem is a lot harder to hide.
I'm co-caregiver for our mother with dementia. She acts nothing like this Trump guy. There may be different stages or it acts differently on others.
All I see is an arrogant POS that lies constantly and it is eating him up. Can you imagine being on an international stage and being a fucking asshole like him?
The position he has shifted into has fucked him up mentally, and he already was a jerk to begin with. He now has to cover up ALL the corrupt bullshit he has done for ages.
Maybe I am wrong

(25,285 posts)at the same time Trump is methodically dismantling our government - agency and department by agency and department.
This has always bothered me - hearing two stories of a sick man in the WH - while at the same time it looks like he is in complete control of every facet of the destruction he is causing.
He is either sick and has dementia or he is an evil genius in cahoots with Putin and he is methodically destroying our government and ripping up the constitution.
These are on the opposite ends of the spectrum and I'm sorry but I don't think we can have it both ways.
The other explanation is that he is just a 'useful idiot' and the people around him are controlling the destruction and he's just the 'master of ceremonies' of the whole event.
It seems to me if he really is a sick man - that the Repugs in Congress wouldn't be as intimidated and scared of him. That if they wanted to - they can do something to get him off their back and be rid of him. The Senate Repugs had their chance and they chose to give him the free reign to continue to destroy their Party while he is systematically taking apart our government.
What could be this strange hold that he has over his toadies. How can a sick man with dementia completely take over the Party without these so-called powerful House and Senate members of the Party not take the upper hand and either remove him or control him better.
Help me here - does anybody have a rational explanation as to what is going on?

(34,498 posts)dependent on Putin or some organization we don't know about, or who benefit financially and in other ways from Trump's actions (e.g., huge tax cuts, reduced regulations). In a way, it is entirely rational, and it is evil. These people are putting their own perceived short-term self-interest above their duty or to the survival of the country.
I don't think the Repubs are scared of him personally and they know they can gang up and take power from him. Instead, I think they and/or their voting base like the outcomes such as the tax cuts, the cruelty to immigrants, the appointment of RWNJ judges to maintain their power, etc. These Repubs that might not like all of the outcomes fear that their base does, and that they might lose in primaries, or general elections in red states, if they oppose Trump.

(13,264 posts)What Trump has is something else. Theres no way he could perform his way through those rallies with Alzheimers or something similar.
The reason the Republicans dont stand up to him is simple. He is giving them everything theyve always wanted in their wildest dreams.

(15,290 posts)The Rs like the policies being implemented (tax cuts, fewer/weaker regulations, judges, defense spending, etc), they just don't like the messanger. That's why it amazes me they didn't vote to convict Trump and go with Pence who would give them the exact same stuff with no drama.
I think Trump's actions are definitely due to a mental illness like malignant narcissism. I think Trump's been this way since birth, but he's older now and it's showing more and more.

Trump hogs all the limelight where his increasingly bizarre behaviour is a feature, not a bug, and in the background Russia chips away at our institutions and exacts vengeance against its old counter-intelligence foes like Peter Stzrok and Andy McCabe.

(22,976 posts)I know, I know, HITLER. Obviously, Trumps not in that league (yet).
But there are similarities unpopular at first, but accepted over time, the blind loyalty he demanded, the raging outbursts, the cruelty, knowing more than his generals, assuming direct command of the military, having millions put to death, etc.
All the while, he was clearly sociopathic and loaded by doctors with dozens of drugs daily. He degenerated quickly, but did unspeakable damage. In the end, he blamed his own people for Germanys downfall.

(42,770 posts)I love following your posts and think you are much kinder than myself...that said I don't want anyone easing ANYTHING for this vicious bastard...As long as we cannot torture him (think "enhanced techniques) or give him solitary in a supermax (think Florence Colorado) then he will suffer less than a soldier with a TBI or a child in an outside cage sleeping on concrete with a space blanket, or a journalist entering a Turkish embassy. He will suffer less than the voters he defrauded or the Kurds he abandoned, or anybody with the moral fiber to testify against him. He has raped women, bankrupted honest contractors and even pushed a fake "university" to screw those who believed in him the most. He's injured too many, too deeply, for too many years and money alone saved him from his just desserts. Soon begins his season of pain and if it is the confusion of dementia that causes it I hope it is horrifying. For the first time I want a human to pray for the sweet release of death.
But perhaps this is just me...

He's also bringing back Reince Priebus and Sean Spicer, so maybe his handlers think he'll calm down if he's surrounded by people he knew back when he wasn't in so much trouble, or so angry.
