Trump and his minions are turning this country into one that most of us do not recognize for its sheer hatred of non-white people and its meanness. Trump supporters are quick to say that people should come here legally, and I would agree if legal immigration were even possible for most people these days. The Trump administration has slowed applications to the point where there is a 10-year backlog just for people already in the system!

So what should people do when their children are starving because climate change has caused excessive draught—certainly exacerbated by the US—or who are in danger of being murdered by gangs? They can’t wait 10 years. When Trump supporters have an answer to that question (other than saying just let them die, they’re not our problem even though we helped destabilize their governments with our policies), I’ll be ready to listen. I’m also ready to listen to why they think racism toward our own citizens is helpful to the country and just what it is they’re hoping to accomplish with their racism and hateful actions. We have millions of black and brown citizens who aren’t going anywhere. Racial hatred makes about as much sense as hating the full moon because it’s too bright.
