General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI continue to be stumped how Rachel Maddow
Is allowed to present the amazing stories and reporting she and he staff are doing daily. These stories have to ruffle feathers at corporate Comcast. Consider all of what we would not know if not for her show. It's too bad the rest of the media, local news don't at least share this information with their audience so more folks know what's happening. Oh well I hope she is allowed to continue in the coming fascist state . Bless her.

(26,632 posts)As long as she keeps getting top ratings (and bringing in loads of $$$), they'll let her say whatever the hell she wants.

(13,058 posts)Just like they always say, money talks.
Ratings are the mothers milk.

(9,251 posts)IOW, they allow a Maddow (ONE) and then peddle RW Nazi propaganda on every other program (and every other network) for the most part. They have a few shows that don't peddle it (Chris Hayes perhaps) but for the most part, it's RW Nazi propaganda.
That said, I'm SO grateful for Rachel Maddow and her reporting. EVERY OTHER outlet and program ignores what she reports. And it's not because it's irrelevant. Quite the contrary - Maddow's material is more often than not SO utterly relevant it seems no one else either wants to or is allowed to touch it. Not sure WTF is up with that but that's how it seems.
FoxNewsSucks
(10,434 posts)Olbermann and Phil Donahue had great ratings too.
It's kinda like how the Fox News Sewer used to claim "fair and balanced" because they had Alan Colmes and Greta van Cistern. The networks can say they are giving both sides, they just don't say they are peddling one side a lot more than the other.
Ed Schultz didn't have Rachel's ratings, and his coverage of important things cost him his job.

(32,669 posts)... who is every bit as liberal as Rachel.
I believe the MSNBC formula was in place even before Comcast became their corporate owner, and it seems like their plan was to become the liberal/progressive answer to Fox News' conservative trend.
The other more conservative show hosts seem to ignore (or sidestep) the liberal/progressive themes on Maddow, O'Donnell, and Hayes so we need to continually discuss them and keep them going. Discussion on DU is important feedback to these guys.

(10,168 posts)I don't watch him (and Lawrence) like I do Rachel, but Chris Hayes's Friday night live forums are awesome. Very much like Donahue used to do and just as good (or better in my mind).

(4,168 posts)It's not the same without the visuals, but you still learn a lot.
I can't afford full on cable to get the programs live, so the podcasts fill in the gap.
If you have a commute to work and back home, you will have time to listen.

anchors.
Morning / Afternoon
Will not watch Morning Joe, as far as I'm concerned it's the worse show on msnbc. He and Mika are twits.
9:00 - Stephanie Ruhle
3:00 - Ali Velshi
4:00 - Nicole Wallace Ok, I know she was a Republican now an Independent, but she skewers Trump almost every day and most of her guests lean left.
6:00 - Ari Melber another hard hitting anti Trumper.
Didn't list Chuck Toad, because he is a waste of space and Chris Matthews, who I think leans left but never gives his guests time to talk.
At Night - Prime Time
8:00 -10:00 Chris Hayes - Rachel Maddow - Lawrence O'Donnell / Pretty damn good Liberal line-up.
At 11:00 Brian Williams who I have no idea how he leans, but generally has left leaning guests.
Saturday/Sunday
8:00 - 10:00 AM Ali Velshi
10:00 - 12:00 AM Joy Reid
6:00 PM - Al Sharpton
They all have some very dynamic Left leaning guests and analyst; Barbara McQuade, Joyce Vance, Chuck Rosenberg, Maya Wiley, Karine Jean-Pierre, David Corn, Matthew Miller, Jill Wine-Banks, Professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr, Paul Butler, Frank Figliuzzi, Jason Johnson just to name a few.
So not sure where your "but for the most part, it's RW Nazi propaganda" impression comes from.

(4,168 posts)I just use Roku and when NBC News shows the program it is not all there. NBC will just air about 20 minutes of the 45 minute broadcast. Even MSNBC on Roku does not have the full broadcast.

(11,431 posts)came down from on high and told her if she referred to trump and team as fascist she would be out of a job. Both Rachel and Chris Hayes act like they want to say it but end up dancing around it.
Fiendish Thingy
(15,634 posts)Fascist is linked to a specific definable ideology, like communist, and I think she is careful with her choice of words.
She has been talking all this week about the loss of the rule of law, the loss of checks and balances on executive power. Rachel uses precise language rather than resorting to emotional buzzwords.
She is the Murrow and Cronkite of the 21st century.

(487 posts)but the audience made such a fuss, they relented.
There has also been talk of them trying to replace Chris Hayes forever, but they realize the outcry would be similar so they have let him stay on.
Hold onto your hats if/when the impeached president is gone from the White House, and the increased attention due to his regime's opposition wanes.

capechacon
(91 posts)an "institution" unto herself. Corporate NBC is savvy enough to know that any attempt by them to somehow restrict her reporting would likely blow up in their faces and result in a huge net negative for their corporation and shareholders. Corporate MSNBC might be dumb but they're not stupid.
Maddow's become a genuine "heavyweight." Hopefully she'll continue to become even more "obese"!!
Amaryllis
(9,525 posts)reservations, and each night asking what do we do about it? Not coming up with answers, at least yet, but asking the question is really important. And having former DOJ and FBI experts confirm she's right, this is powerful stuff. Lawrence and CHris Hayes do a good job too, and some of the others, but no one compares with RAchel. Her IQ must be off the charts. Also her emotional intelligence.

(38,321 posts)Rachel Maddow belongs to television.
I can't imagine she'd ever turn against the system that employs her.
That doesn't mean she doesn't have anything important to say -- it's simply life in the U.S.A.. You are free to say anything you like in the U.S.A. so long as you are ineffective.
If Rachel incited a mob to drag Trump out of the White House by his tiny little balls she'd be off the air in a second, and possibly dead.
If Rachel reported something that caused Comcast share prices to plummet she'd be out of a job.
