Hatred and greed vs love and generosity

Last edited Sat Feb 15, 2020, 12:28 PM - Edit history (1)

The history of humanity indicates that hatred and greed are stronger motivators than love and generosity.

And if you don't agree with that, give me a better reason for humanity's history of wars, slavery, genocide, and so much more of our blood filled past and present.

The 20th century was the bloodiest of all, and decent/sane human beings thought we'd learn from it. But that didn't happen.

Is it possible that humanity consists of two different species: Those driven, primarily, by hate and greed and those driven primarily by love and generosity? I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know that these are traits that separate "good" from "evil."

Think this is all bullshit? Look at America today. Who are the people who are driven by hatred and greed, and are in charge of all the levers of power? Do you really need a few minutes to think about that?

At this very moment, we have a madman in the White House and a Republican Party that holds power by selling hatred with the purpose of fulfilling their own greed.

In the past, we've seen Democratic administrations that were driven by love and generosity. What does that mean? How about Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, child care programs, "Meals on Wheels," educational assistance, and countless other programs aimed at improving the quality of life for all.

At this very moment, Trump and the Republicans are trying to undo all of these programs and replace them with nothing. This means, everyone for themselves and if you can't make it, too bad. Live in a sewer, or die. Pick yourself up by your own bootstraps, or fuck off and starve.

What we're seeing today is the hatred and greed coming out on top. It's why so many of us are depressed and understand the need to beat them in this years election.

If the arc of history truly bends towards justice, we will defeat the evil they've brought us. And if they steal it all (again), exactly what do we plan to do about it? If history is any guide, not a damn thing.

But think about this. We are the majority in this country. And we cannot let another theft stand. We need a Plan B. And it may be a very unpleasant plan. But there may be no alternative.

To borrow a phrase: "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

There are at least 10 nations with nuclear capabilities now and each continent has various forms of instability amongst its citizens and nations. The world is truly a powder keg.

As far as the two species, this takes us back to the Nature vs. Nurture argument that no one seems to agree on. Let's just say it's a combination of the two.

there be any doubt in today's America that nurture is dead for the moment? Can it be revived under a new administration and senate? Much of what was built over centuries had been destroyed in a bit over three short years. Who knows where we're headed from here?

But when we have a government elected by a minority and which the majority abhors, how do we escape the trap of our own Constitution? It's a real Catch 22.

And no musket had a 30-round magazine either.

But choose not to use it because it does not serve them to use it.

Canada already has good health care, less violence, and beat us to same-sex marriage. It's Utopia with frostbite.
