That's the cognitive defect Trump voters suffer from. They gave up control of their fate, the fate of our country to a corrupt man. They believe he is doing a great job. The rest of us sit, wait, and wonder. What is going to happen?

(14,961 posts)I know little of global politics, minus Russia and a little Ukraine. This morning, I was stunned to learn the Phillipines is a democracy, although Duterte is fighting hard to end that, much like Trump is doing here.😞

(13,571 posts)...when people were not only puzzled about their fate, but fighting was going on in the streets and countryside. Towns were burned to the ground. Neighbors against neighbors in some cases. Hangings. Prison ships in the harbor. I have fourteen ancestors who fought in that war. And an ancestor who was labeled a traitor to the cause of liberty because he helped neighbors who were loyalists; helped the family and children. He himself came under suspicion then, and had to flee before they came to hang him. He was nailed inside a pine box and smuggled away by his wife, on the farm wagon. They had to flee to Canada, leaving behind 13,000 acres of land and a thriving saw mill. (And thus I have dual citizenship with Canada.)
My point. Citizens then couldn't let their fee fees get in the way of the cause. No time for being afraid of mean tweets from the king. They pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor, and many gave their all.
Now, millions won't even bother to go vote.

(12,586 posts)I cannot think of a single day since he was sworn in that Fat Donnie hasn't said or done something contrary to the norms and beliefs upon which this country was founded. It's as if the Constitution was never written, and everything I was taught in grade school and high school civics has been thrown out the window.
I'm 70 and I have never seen a president so contemptuous of the rule of law -- or of anybody except his daughter (who he still wants to screw, eww!).
And I have never questioned the patriotism of any individual who occupied the Oval Office. I might have vehemently disagreed with their policies, but I never doubted their love of this country.
Until now.
