I can still remember reading about Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Higher education should be broad based. It's a pity the students are being short changed. Sorry to hear about your situation.

It has been very difficult for me. But beyond my own situation, it is indicative of a very disturbing trend in higher education. The humanities are being devalued in favor of disciplines that are perceived to be more aligned with market demands. In addition, universities are being run like corporations, and faculty are increasingly viewed as disposable workers who are only valued for the money they bring to the institution through tuition and grants. Meanwhile the numbers and pay of administrators keeps rising, without regard to their actual contribution to the teaching and research mission of universities.

Liberal Studies that was exciting because of the classroom dynamic. I treasure those classes to this day. I stay in touch with one of the professors who still teaches at the school but not in that course, which both she and her students absolutely loved. I think the humanities should have an actual classroom interface.

Online courses are convenient, but they lack the valuable component of classroom interaction, and many students don’t like them. Administrators love online classes because they save universities money. It is yet another part of the corporate culture of higher education that is dehumanizing.
