Doctor confessed to fatal shooting at Springdale Community Church, police say
A doctor charged with shooting one man to death and critically wounding another during a homeowners association meeting at Springdale Community Church Thursday evening confessed to the crimes, a Louisville police commander said.
Mahmoud Yousef Hindi, 55, was charged Friday with killing the president of the Spring Creek Homeowners Association during a meeting at the church. Police also charged him with critically wounding a member of the associations board of directors.
Lt. Barry Wilkerson, commander of the homicide unit, said at a press conference that investigators were looking into reports from neighbors that the shooting stemmed from a dispute Hindi had with the homeowners association over a driveway and fence he had built on his property.
Hindi was at the meeting a short period of time before he began shooting, Wilkerson said. He said seven other people were a few feet from Hindi when he began firing. Police did not identify the type of weapon used.

Barbara Pass, a Spring Creek resident and former homeowner association board member, said Hindi and his erratic behavior were often the subject of neighborhood gossip. She said that behavior included writing vitriolic letters and telling passersby on the sidewalk that he had explosives in his yard.
