...to stolen elections with foreign intervention.
In my opinion, the republicans have been on this quest to take total and complete control of the three branches of our once-great democratic republic.
Ignoring the obvious evidence it appears to me that the WH and MoscowMitch are going for broke with the 2020 election. Shoot the moon as it called in Hearts. Going for broke. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213006858
If they can manage to corrupt what is left of our democracy by installing Orange Man back into the WH. And taking control of Congress. Both, with the help of the Russians and willful ignoring the warnings of our election security expert. What we will wake up to in early November 2020 is what they have schemed 20 years to do and will have accomplished.
Once done in my opinion we will never see another free and fair election. We will never see another Obama type presidency or a blue wave to overtake a house of congress. Every smoke and mirrors elections from that day forward will be decided before the first vote is cast.
The chosen head of their dream "government" will be reelected election after election with 95% of the votes going for the chosen ruler.
And yes if this is not the outcome of this 2020 election first I will be happy and surprise and gladly will say I WAS WRONG. But I hope I will not need to say I TOLD YOU SO!
The shooting range is open to take your best shot to convince me I am wrong.
I will still be voting to do my part. VOTING BLUE NO MATTER WHO.

(6,217 posts)The timing of the 2000 election lined up with a right-leaning SCOTUS made the kick off possible at that point.
I am now a retired computer consultant. So I have always watched this from the standpoint of is the technology available in massive numbers to COMPUTERIZE national elections. By 2000 the answer was yes. In fact, I and other consultants were amazed at how fast they geared up to start this slow roll to. IMHO there was already a plan in place to justify the NEED to move to elections by computerized systems. All they need now was a reason. Along came the hanging chad with a primed SCOTUS to implement the next step.
From that point forward they checked off step by step the things they would also need. Gerrymandering, massive voter suppression, enough states with republican control to implement gerrymandering, massive voter suppression, voter ID programs and other measures to suppress voting.
So for me, 2000 was the jumping-off point.

(23,975 posts)there's going to be a lot of painful, disappointed hangovers come November 4
we've been underestimating the ratfuckers for 4 decades and we're going to pay for our naivete with what remains of our republic.

Got in street fights with police in the 60's when the cause was right. Yeah, got beat, got arrested but escaped and still here.
IDK, why people aren't in the streets en mass everyday now. Probably afraid they might break or lose their Iphone or miss American Idol or idiot or whatever that show is called.

(55,445 posts)But after 2000 and ESPECIALLY after 2016 we should have had serious #realtalk about either ditching the electoral college entirely or tweaking the math to be a better representation of the results.
We're living in the worst possible timeline because we've sat idly by while the electoral college has fucked us in two presidential elections. We can not and should not allow a third.

(33,484 posts)We still have a distributed system and there are many which use paper ballots now. There is still time to thwart this attempted take-over.
Push for paper ballots everywhere -- the voters must have a system we can observe and verify. Nobody can see electrons flitting around at the command of software.
