Democrats hold a voter registration advantage over Republicans in the key battleground state.
For the first time in Florida's history, a political party in the state has more than 5 million registered voters.
As of Jan. 31, Democrats had 5.04 million registered voters in the state, compared to 4.79 million registered Republicans, according to Florida's Department of State. An additional 3.78 million voters are registered with minor parties or have no party affiliation.
Democrats gained approximately 53,000 new registered voters in the last year, while Republicans gained 33,000 voters.
At a Tuesday press conference, the Florida Democratic Party announced the milestone achievement, alongside representatives from Forward Florida Action, Alianza for Progress, and the New Florida Majority.

(82,849 posts)This is why the Republican leadership in Florida were doing their damnedest to nullify the will of the voters and keep as many citizens off the voting rolls as possible. This doesn't turn Florida into a Democratic stronghold, but it does mean that our efforts to get out the vote and elect more Democrats will bear more fruit.

I tend to hope there will be a lot of anyone but Trump voters
among the NPAs but I would hate to live on the difference.

(15 posts)Florida is a swing state with a closed primary and Trump is running unopposed (realistically) so what's to say republicans aren't re-registering as democrats to throw a wrench into the works? Does anyone have stats on who the new registered democrats are? Are they converts from the republicans or genuinely new voters?

(42,372 posts)In my red county, we are working hard to register voters and get them to sign up for vote by mail.
Our Democratic Women's Club, which I helped found and just finished my term as president, has gained nearly 30 new members this year. This is huge for our county.
We are pissed of, fired up and ready to go!
