He wanted to be Americas mayor a whole lot longer.
Rudy Giuliani secretly asked then-New York Gov. George Pataki to cancel New York Citys 2001 mayoral election so he could remain in office following the Sept. 11 terror attack, a new book reveals.
The bombshell revelation is contained in Patakis upcoming memoir of 9/11, Beyond the Great Divide: How A Nation Became A Neighborhood.
In an excerpt obtained by The Post, Pataki recalls how he attended a press conference with Giuliani and then-Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi at Manhattans Pier 92 on Sept. 24, 2001.

Me.
(35,454 posts)1. Not At All Surprised
He was begging the people of NYC and it goes to show what we really thought of "America's Mayor' that we didn't want to have anything more to do with him.

(15,836 posts)7. I heard that back in 2001.
At least that failed.

I lived in NYC then and there was talk of exactly that and Rudy was rebuffed quickly.

(24,259 posts)6. We lived in northern NY and I had
heard about it. I believed, and now even more so, Pataki over Ghouliani.
I didn't always agree with Pataki as gov but I always felt he was at least a fairly decent human being. Ghouliani, OTOH, not so much and he's gotten much much worse.

(65 posts)4. Seems entirely plausible
Ghoulie's ego is , if at all possible, even bigger than the inept clown in the WH
