Question about when they actually test for COVID-19....

So, you get a bad cold or the normal flu, go to doctor/hospital, they don't test for COVID-19 because you do not meet the criteria.

But if that person had COVID-19, but just had a minor reaction to it, wouldn't that person be passing it to others since they are not quarantined?

Seems that way. MontanaMama Feb 2020 #1
That makes sense, but that means a lot of spreaders don't know they have it. nt USALiberal Feb 2020 #2

I don’t think testing kits are widely available here in the US so maybe they’re using them in extreme cases only?

Not good. I hope this changes quickly. Testing and appropriate care and follow up could save a lot of people.

My kiddo was sick at the beginning of February...I took him to the dr when it was clear he had more than a cold. They stuck a swab in his nose and another in his throat and we knew he didn’t have strep but did have the flu in less than 5 minutes. Got him Tamiflu and kept him in bed and everything around us as clean as possible. He got better quickly and nobody else in the house got sick. We have the tools to do this.

in Minnesota was done by overnighting samples to the CDC. So, not many are probably being tested, really.
