Will the people in the red states choose anti-intellectualism and slavish loyalty over survival?

(38,187 posts)They literally have conversations where someone says they haven't read a book since high school. Someone else pipes in with they haven't read a book since they quit high school. Then someone else comes along and says they never even learned to read and that is the "winner" of their little conversation. I kid you not. I can name names of people who have had these conversations around me. They'll openly brag they never read and never learn. They knew it all since they were a kid, without bothering to learn anything.
Yes, they will choose anti-intellectualism and cult of personality (for someone not so long ago they would have called "damn Yankee" as one word) over survival. They are PROUD of their willful stupidity. They try to one-up each other on who has read the least since school. They are PROUD of refusing to believe in any science. You can't get past their pride in their stubbornness. It is their stubbornness they are ultimately trying to prove. The rest of the crap they say and do are just a means to an end. It is their stubbornness they are actually proud of.
That is why it is so frustrating to be outnumbered and surrounded by these idiots while Democrats in predominantly Democratic states tell those of us in the minority in red states to magically pull a ginormous win for all Democrats right out of our asses every election. Come try it and see if you can get through these numbskulls. I'll wait and learn from your mastery of convincing people who refuse to listen or learn to vote for a Democrat. Good luck with that. Yer gonna need it.

You are educated enough to know why I like [Donald Trump] and in general, the republican party; he stands for what I believe in. No different than why you like Beto or old man Bernie. I want guns, I want diesel trucks, I want capitalism, I want people in society that want to work hard, I don't want to support bottom feeders and bums, I want border security, I want ID's checked at the voting booth, I want less regulation, Christianity is important to me, I want lower taxes, I don't want to pay for planned parenthood. This is of but a very small list. We don't have to agree, that's what great about America but in the end the problem is not Trump.

Its pretty obvious that this person has thoroughly bought into the Trump nihilism, since me-first racism is the main ingredient. Everything on their priorities checklist is fear-and-hate based.
How many red-staters are there in the U.S. who share this persons twisted ideal world? Fox, Rush, Hannity, et al have pushed racism, xenophobia, homophobia and various conspiracy theories for decades now. Their thought-killing, Orwellian messaging has reduced too many Americans into stereotypical right-wing nut jobs.
