Do I understand correctly that, even when a doctor or hospital does test someone

for Covid-19, the specimen materials (sputum, etc.) have to be shipped to the CDC before THEY determine the result?

If this is so, does it not mean that what we find out about the number of positive test results and their location will be within the total control of the Trump regime?

Since the CDC appears to be trying to hide the number of cases it seems like it would be in the best interests of states like NY and Calif. to work together to develop their own tests so as to try to have accurate information as soon as possible and not risk being harmed by Trump and his evil empire.

Point of care testing showed positive flu A and Flu B.
I had been hospitalized 10 days before the CDC confirmed positive for H1N1.
I was in a negative pressure room with everyone who entered in full isolation garb.
I wasn’t allowed to leave the room.
When I discharged at 14 days, I had to wear a mask home.
Under sane administrations, most patients would be considered presumptive.
Under this one, other than the fact that they will refuse to do mass testing, I wouldn’t assume that we will get accurate statistics.

... Scott Becker, the head of the Association of Public Health Laboratories, says that more than 40 public health labs should be able to test for the virus by the end of the weekend.

Over the next week, he added, that number should grow to more than 100 labs, as the CDC sends out more test kits.

Initially, limited testing capacity meant the CDC didn't advise testing sick people unless they had a history of travel to affected countries or contact with a known COVID-19 case. And test kits sent to labs around the country had a problem with one ingredient that resulted in delays.

"I certainly do wish that the testing was available sooner. There was this very unfortunate challenge in the production process and it did put us a few weeks behind," Becker told NPR...

willing to make that public despite the "all info released must be approved by Pence" directive?

Can Trump legally muzzle non-federal labs and their personnel? Better question: will he try to do it anyway?

the doctors on the ground are very concerned with informing the public about risk potentials, and most of the hospitals that have seen COVID-19 have held press conferences to notify local media about positive cases.

Hopefully journalists and state public health departments will aid in maintaining a good database of cases.

I was half asleep but I think he said New York is doing its own testing and I didn't hear him say anything about waiting for CDC to determine the results.
