Said by one of my clients today, my son lost a good job, it was paying $11.75 per hr

It took me a minute to absorb what she said. She then went on to say she would " kill to have a job that paid that well" .
The things that you take for granted sometimes....
I am not rich by any means, but I make a decent living. I've got a lot of student loan debt, but am still able to have a decent life and do the things I like to do without financial difficulty. I live a pretty simple life. I am not off traveling to exotic places and buying diamonds and furs and eating at expensive restaurants.
But my lifestyle is comfortable and I shop when I want, eat out when I want and plan a nice vacation for a few days at least once a year.
I cannot imagine what life is like for you financially when you think a job that pays 11.75 is a good job. I know the kind of work the client does, and its hard manual labor. Its a disgrace that we do not have at least $15 minimum wage in this country.

4. I've never understood why those pushing for a $15/hr wage rate don't include in

their argument about taxes saved because less people will be financially eligible for food support, and maybe in some cases, medicaid eligibility. IMO it's a good argument in favor of a $15/hr starting wage.

Why am I having to pay for SNAP, Medicaid, housing assistance because Wamart and others will not pay their employees a living wage?

That is reality since the 70s. As a college grad in my early 30s I was paid $8 an hour as a receptionist at a doctor's office in CA in the mid 90s. I was lucky that I had a degree or I would have made $5 like the others in the office who were better at it than I was. I worked two jobs and didn't have two consecutive days off for two years and of course no benefits or health care.

Wage inequality has killed the middle class thanks to GOP policies, right wing media and Fux Ruse and purposely ignorant voters.

bankrupt. When I retired 9 years ago I was earning $9.30 and hour. Since my son has lived with me
since 2000 and adds to our household with his Medicaid/Social Security income we do ok even though
now that I'm also receiving Social Security things are a little tighter.

It's not how much a person earns, it's what they do with it. We don't have any credit debt and own our vehicle outright. We're not homeless and we eat well...

9. In 1981 I made $12.60 an hour working full time at a grocery store

Big Bear in Ohio. I started in 1976 as a part-time bagger. Graduated from High School and went full time on the Stock Crew.

So, in 1981, I was making $12.60 an hour, time and a half for overtime, double time on Sundays and Holidays. I also got 2 weeks paid vacation, 4 weeks after 10 years.

Oh, and I got 8 hours of pay for my birthday whether I worked that day or not.

So, I used a calculator to determine what that would equal in today's money.... you ready for this?

My pay as a High School graduate at a grocery store in Ohio would be equivalent to $96K today .

Raygun Democrats and Retrumplicans trickle down bullshit has fucked an entire generation of Americans.

You are correct about how the middle class has been gutted. We have gone backwards instead of forward.

Sixty percent of Americans make less than forty thousand dollars a year, exactly like the people you overheard. Sometimes makes me wonder where the Democratic Party has been for the last forty years and if the Party needs a come to Jesus moment. We're like frogs slowly being boiled in a pot of hot water.

salary increases of others. I’ve read comments from people who wonder how much their hamburger at McDonald’s will cost if workers earn $15 hr. 🙄
