COVID-19 and Self-Quarantine

What makes the general public believe that two weeks at home will do the trick and Life returns to normal? And what will be "normal?"

After two weeks, you can be re-infected.

After two weeks, you can feel great and still be a carrier of the virus.

What changes after two weeks.

They're talking two years to get a cure and/or a vaccine.

Are people prepared to not travel, to go to restaurants, to go food shopping, go to school, go to work, etc. for more than two weeks? For how long?

the past few years that we have thought were so awful, as the calm before the storm and the last bit of normal. I pray that I am wrong.

meaning the fever drops and they're not having massive coughing fits. Since the virus persists in some people, it's probably wise to wear a mask until the test is negative if you're out of groceries.

Keeping other people safe is much the same as keeping yourself safe: wash your hands before you go out, do not touch your face with your fingers. Limit your time out to the barest minimum to stock up on essentials, remove the mask once you're home and discard it, wash your hands again because you don't want to give yourself a cold after you've just recovered from coronavirus,

If you're running the high fever, you're not going to want to go out and you probably won't be all that hungry, anyway. A fever of 103, the average with this one, knocks people pretty flat.

It's probably wise to stock up on a couple of weeks of canned stuff just in case, you won't feel like cooking so Chef Boy-Ar-Dee into the breach.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a certain amount of panic buying going on and that helps no one. You're not going to have to barricade yourself in the house for six months. Two weeks will be doable.

The airlines are going to get destroyed in this.

I'm not going to worry about it that much until they start cancelling sporting events. Then I will worry about it a little more.

no Summer Olympics this year. Regular baseball season starts in a couple of weeks. Seattle already has an employee of their XFL team who has contracted the virus.

Start worrying now.

two weeks is what health officials think is the appropriate quarantine period. They probably base this on previous experience with other coronaviruses, and like you, I suspect they may well be incorrect.

We may well be at the brink of an economic downturn that will take a long time to resolve. It's most important that none of us, especially our candidates, appears to be cheering that on as a way to remove Trump.

If an individual has survived a bout of the coronavirus, their immune system will have developed antibodies to protect against a second infection.

There are many reported cases of relapse after recovery and the second round worse than the first. Epidemiologists have not figured out why this is happening. They don't know if the disease hasn't passed even though symptoms have subsided or if humans are not developing a necessary level of immunity, or if there is another unknown.
